They had one of the best guitar player/singers I've ever heard or seen... Terry Kath... The man could make his guitar smoke, and he would kill you with his vocals... He had the most soulful voice...
Terry Kath
He would tilt his head back... close his eyes... and his fingers would fly up and down the fret board of that Gibson SG... I got to see him perform three times, and always came away astounded...Allegedly, Jimmy Hendrix once told Chicago saxophonist Walter Parazaider "Your guitar player is better than me."
'What's This World Coming To?'
This was filmed during a recording session...
'Dialogue'
It seemed that the voices of Kath and Peter Cetera worked so well together...
'Wishing You Were Here'
Sleepless hours and dreamless nights and far aways
Wishing you were here
Wishing you were here
Even though you're far away, you're on my mind
Wishing you were here
Wishing you were here
I think this is one of the most incredible songs 'Chicago' ever did... It featured Terry Kath on lead vocals, Peter Cetera singing the bridge of the song, and if the backup vocals sound familiar, that was provided by The Beach Boys...
I've seen 'Chicago' several times since Terry Kath died... and invariably, at some point, between songs, his name is mentioned. In my opinion, when Terry Kath died, the band lost its heart and soul...

I don't know about "better than Hendrix", but he DID play some awesome licks.
ReplyDeleteI like Chicago - but I lean towards Robert Lamm... that man has some MAD skills while stroking the ivory's. One of my favorites is:
ReplyDelete"Gently I'll Wake You"
I've been gone, far away
The days they seemed like years...
Gently I'll Wake You
I won't hardly shake you...
Hold me tight, don't let go
We'll dream the whole day through
I missed you more than you can know...
c'mere.

ReplyDeleteLOVE Chicago. My first baton corp that I twirled with as a 4 year old had several Chicago songs in our playlist.
ReplyDeleteThey have a sound like no other.
