"Christmas In Dixie... 2010"

It's cold here this morning... the promise of snow scooted north of us...

GirlShoes and Heff Bert came up for Christmas, but he had to work last night... so I gave them their presents last afternoon.... BoyShoes was here as well... So "Christmas Present"  was over before it had a chance to get started...

That gave way too much time to dwell on 'Christmases Past'... I did take some flowers to the cemetery last afternoon and visited with my Mom and Dad... Left a small remembrance for Barry... and offered a prayer up for Robert...

These are the last two Christmas songs I will post for 2010...

I love them both... not really Christmas standards by the measurement of how one would define 'standards'... but I love them... these are the two I most prefer to hear...

What a great song this is... I was surprised to find a 'live' version of it...

I shall never forget the Christmases spent as a child with my parents... I shall never forget the Christmases spent with my children when they were small...

  1. Merry Christmas to you, Shoes. We got your snow - about 6 inches, so my Christmas present was shoveling about 300 feet of sidewalk and 60 feet of driveway! I hope your holiday brought less work and lots of joy.

  3. I love Christmas in Dixie by Alabama. I haven't heard it in Forever. What a treat. And I Will Be Home For Christmas is always a song that brings a tear to my eye. Geographically home has changed many a time, but it is always where the heart is. Of course, it always brings to mind first and foremost the place where I grew up. And you can't ever really go home again. So, I go where the people I love are.

    Merry Christmas Shoes. xoxoxo.

  5. The snow scooted around you and hit us full blast. First White Christmas I ever recall. I hope it melts soon!

My mother loved snow. She would have been as excited as the kids to have had a white Christmas, so it was especially poignant when the snow began to fall yesterday.

  6. yeah, the southern snow was a total pain for me, given that i had to try to get back to DC in it. it was supposed to be a disaster here, so i drove all christmas night and most of yesterday... to a completely snow-free street. sigh.

hope you had a fantastic christmas!

  11. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I know what you mean about Christmases past. My siblings and I got out the old slide projector on Christmas day and had a wonderful time looking back, seeing our parents and grandparents so young and vibrant. We had a great laugh, then a few cries. My melancholy STILL has not subsided! Dang these holidays, they do this to me every year!

Hope you have a wonderful, happy, healthy new year, Shoes! Cheers to you!

  12. @ Linn... LMAO @ 'making it go to 11!!!' I most definitely get the Spinal Tap reference there!!! 'Christmas In Dixie' is a really great song... I am not sure why it touches me like it does, but it does. Kindred spirits? Most definitely!!!

@ Jaime... Happy New Year to YOU, sweetie... I hope all is well for you!!!

@ Ubermouth!!! Happy New Year to you TOO!!!

@ Big Pissy... Happy New Year to you, sweetie!!!

@ Marnie... It's going to be a great one... regardless of how it goes... I just know it!!!

@ Anything... I know, dear... When I would walk through the room where my tree is, I would just sit down and look at it... and remember the lifetime of trees and Christmases that Mom and Dad made so special for me... and the ones that were special to me because of my kids... I hope my kids will remember some day how much I loved Christmas...
