"Public Service Announcement..."

Every now and then I get a burr up my butt and I think I want to get serious about something... then it quickly passes and I resort back to my somewhat normal full-of-shiznit self... Thank God for that...

I was going to write about the dangers of texting while driving... and offer statistics such as:

  • 11% of all drivers are talking on their cell phones at any given point in time.
  • 2.600 traffic deaths are caused annually by accidents by drivers using cell phones.
  • 570,000 accidents leading to minor and serious injuries are caused each year by drivers using cell phones.
And this can go on and on and on...  Seriously, it is a problem... a bad problem...

BUT...

I can't find any statistics about accidents, injuries, deaths, etc... caused by this kind of distraction while driving...

I mean... distractions ARE distractions... now, granted, if I were hauling ass down the interstate, I would have to have rather quick reflexes to pick up on such scenery distractions...

As long as safety orgasms organizations focus on driving-while-texting or other such distractions, we will never really be safe on America's (or your country's) highways...

Being on the campus of a university, there is quite a bit of this kind of distraction... and we are a small school...  use a multiplier of.. Hell, I don't know HOW many, for schools in the state like Ole Miss or Mississippi State...

I used to think that I lost track of where I would be in any given lecture in any given class for a host of reasons... but I suspect its mostly visual...

Just sayin'...
