"Guitar Porn..."

I'm not sure what it is about guitars that fascinate me so...  Maybe it has something to do with the shape of a guitar being so similar to that of a woman...

There are great similarities... they are fun to hold... you can caress the most wonderful sounds from them... One definitely uses a g-string... the other might...  They respond well to  how you touch them... how you use your fingers with them...

Gretsch White Falcon

This guitar is quickly replacing my desire for a Rickenbacker 12-string... I tend to think of Neil Young and Stephen Stills in their early days with Buffalo Springfield when I think of White Falcons...

Neil Young
"Harvest Moon"

I've read that he wrote this song for his wife... and in the video that was shot for this recording, he is dancing with his wife... Love and Romance is great when it works...

Stephen Stills
"TreeTop Flyer"

Stephen Stills gets his unique guitar sound from various tunings... I've read that for 'TreeTop Flyer,' his guitar is tuned EEEEBE  instead of EADGBE...which allows for open strings to drone...  Neil  Young is also the master of various tunings, other than Standard tuning...

Neil Young's Gibson 'Les Paul'
'Old Black'
'Old Black' has a ton of miles on her... hmmm... there I go using weight AND distance measures again...
_______________

'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'

Tom Petty, Jeff Lynde, Dani Harrison, Prince, Etal...

Dani Harrison, just to Tom Petty's left looks SO much like his Dad, George... and what about that outro solo that Prince plays? Unbelievable!!  Did you know that on the BeaTles' studio version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps,' Eric Clapton plays the outro part?  It was about this time that Eric Clapton also stole George Harrison's wife, Patti Boyd Harrison, away from him.  That marriage didn't last either, but George and Eric remained friends up until George's death... they referred to each other as 'Husbands~in~law...'  I guess it's good to have a sense of humor about things like that... no?

Harrison, a Gretsch, and Clapton
Hey! Where's Patti??
Patti who??
Nevermind...
___________

Some of my guitars...

Left to Right...
Fender Fretless Jazz Bass, Fender Jazz Deluxe,
'63 Gretsch Bass, '74 Fender Jazz Bass

When I play out with friends, I tend to play bass... I am a better bassist I think...

Left to Right...
Gibson ES-347, Rogue Violin Bass,
Epiphone Wildkat, Agile 820

...but... I do love to play the others as well...

I recently came very VERY close to becoming a couple of notches in some lipstick cases... maybe I'm better off with guitars...

Not that I'm opposed to becoming a notch in someone's lipstick case...
she just needs to be worth it... you know?

  2. aah! i LOVE that performance with prince et al. my dad and i christened it "when guitars weep." prince SHREDS on that one.

my daddy is a guitarist. he just played a reunion gig with his old professional band last weekend, and i was thrilled to get to be there. it was amazing to hear dad play with his boys again, the way they used to damn near 40 years ago. it was a treat.

daddy told me once that guitars were the one constant in his life besides me. i don't know exactly what that means, but figured that you, as a guitarist, might get that better than i do...

  3. Being indescriminate when getting involved with men never was a problem for me. I only had one that didn't leave when I told him to leave. It was a doozy. It's different with women, especially with one who chases you.

The guitar porn lust is definitely the shape but also the idea you hold a guitar in your arms and you minister to it. Not so much a piano.

My daddy played the mouth harp. This is something I didn't know until I was 20 years past his death. My mom kept his instruments and when I asked about them she told me they used to host music parties at our house amongst people they knew from church. We were Baptists and I find it remarkable because there wasn't music that I remember at home, except church music.

  4. You can elicit the purest of sounds from a guitar - if it's held right, supposed to be held in your hands - cradled by your body... a sound like no other.... just hold it, close your eyes and touch it, feel it - play what it tells you to play...
wait - a guitar or a woman? hmmmm....

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" IS the greatest guitar solo ever - and one that with the right guitar, in the right hands - continues to be the greatest! It's a kick back and hold kinda song.

I think instead of becoming a notch in the lipstick case you should just be smothered in the lipstick kisses - now THAT would make for a great duet...

  5. here you go..

“The guitar… is like a lady, but one to whom the saying “look at me but do not touch me” does not apply; and its rose is quite different from a real rose, since it will not wither however much it is touched with the hands, and moreover, if it is plucked by the hands of a skilled master, it will produce in them ever- new bouquets which delight the ear with their sonorous fragrances.”

  9. @ Spring Flower... thank you! I would like that as well! I'm very proud of the guitars that I own... The Gretsch was the very first guitar I ever bought... My Dad was with me the day I bought it... so it is really special to me...

@ Magnolia... that is a GREAT version of 'WMGGW'... and an all-star line-up to boot!! I would bet that your Daddy was as pleased to have you there when he played as much as you were pleased to be there.

I totally understand the comment your Dad made about the guitars and you being a constant. Trust me, it's very much a compliment to YOU and to his guitars. Evidently, the two of you have a very strong bong... a very strong relationship... Guitars, like people, like those we love, will take care of us if we take care of them... Many people/possessions in our lives, but my children and my guitars I value above anything and everything else I have.

You, my dear, sound like a wonderful daughter, and your Dad sounds like a wonderful guy! That is SO special...

@ Charlene... I would be flabbergasted to learn that my Dad ever played a musical instrument... especially after he had been gone that long...

@ Red.Neck.Chic... do you play guitar? You sound like it! And thank you for the follow-up quote that you left... what's the source of that quote?

Lip stick kisses versus Lip stick notches?? I agree!!!

@ Senorita... I am not the least bit surprised that you are shaped like that red guitar!! Nothing wrong with curvy women and curvy guitars. I've NEVER owned a pointy guitar!!

Yep... at least my porn isn't AS lewd and lascivious as the other!! ;o)

@ Jaime... Yeah, I'm on a porn kick, but like I told Senorita up there... it's a bit more harmless than the other kind of porn!!

Not that there is anything wrong with the other kind of porn! ;o)

@ Pat... thank you for stopping by! And thank you for your warm comments!!!
