"Musical Intervention..."

It seems to be on the verge of raining here today in the Mississippi Delta... I wish it would rain... I love rain... I love overcast skies...


I've just been a bit off of things here as of late...


I've been tinkering with music... It is easy for me to 'get lost' in music...


One of my favorite 'groups' from way back was 'Sam and Dave' (Sam Moore and David Prater)... who did most of their recording in Memphis... just up the road a bit... at Stax Records.  The studios musicians for most of their recordings were 'Booker T and the MGs...'  Two outstanding members of this band were Donald 'Duck' Dunn  on bass and Steve Cropper on guitar.


They did quite a few songs that I liked, but their signature song could well be this one...

The music that Cropper wrote and performed just goes off the charts... he performed on most if not all of the 'Sam & Dave' recordings... co-wrote and performed on the studio version of Otis Redding's 'Dock Of The Bay'...

Tony Joe White and his Southern Swamp Rock... he has been quite a prolific song writer over his career... 

A few years ago, someone got the bright idea of mixing some R&B/Soul singers with some Country singers... and this video/recording was one of the results...

'Rainy Night In Georgia'

The blending of Conway Twitty with Sam Moore (Sam & Dave) is unbelievably great... this song is one of the best that Tony Joe White ever wrote...  Sam has gotten older, but his voice is marvelous...
