I always loved this cartoon strip... if you aren't familiar with it, it's about a little boy named Calvin and his stuffed toy tiger, Hobbes. Calvin dabbles with the fantasy side of his warped life... and brings such great insight to Life... I have way too many of the 'Calvin and Hobbes' coffee table books... they are a treasure...
Hobbes is very much alive in Calvin's world and they get in so much trouble together... Hobbes ends up being a foil for Calvin to blame for anything and everything that happens...
Sometimes, they just sit around and draw... or color... or create...
Or sometimes they solve the complex problems presented by Math...
I have students that use similar techniques from time to time...
...however, my students aren't as cute...
Sadly enough, I have colleagues that write the kind of dribble that they are creating here... It's insane... totally insane...
This kind of stuff reminds me of my good friend, Larry...
Who reenacted a scene from his first-grade playground at lunch today...
Since we knew it was coming, we weren't quite so shocked... and he didn't present us with any poop jokes WHILE we were eating...
Thank you, Larry...
I love the slant on the issue of kids on medication of some sort or another...
And of course, in the reality of the matter, Hobbes reverts back to being a stuffed toy, and not Calvin's BFF...
Poor Hobbes...
An imagination is a terrible thing to destroy...
I'm not sure I agree with Calvin's assessment as it relates to girls not getting to have any toys when they grow up... I think quite the contrary...
There's all kinds of toys...
And then finally a panel where Calvin is our typical kid...
I wish Hobbes could go to lunch with me and Larry Friday...
He would fit right in...

This strip used to be in our local daily. Alas it's been gone for about 20 years now.
ReplyDeleteSomeone sent me a whole series of black and white strips and they all involved huge snow balls and variations on snow people. Hillarious.
I totally loved Calvin and Hobbes growing up !I still love them. That and the Far Side. Thanks for bringing back all the memories.
ReplyDeleteCalvin and Hobbes is the best cartoon ever! The artist Bill Watson, I believe his name is is a genius.

I own every book and have replaced some for being "worned out!!"
ReplyDeleteWould it help to know I raised a Calvin? He did not have a Hobbes to ground him however...but of my the stories I could tell.
