"It's A Great Day..."

"... to whoop somebody's ass..."

Happy New Year... I trust that 2011 is off to a great start for everyone...

Are any of you familiar with a musician by the name of Paul Thorn?  He is one of my favorite musicians... and one of his songs has really been a theme song for me the past couple of days...

I let my Christmas tree and decorations stay up a few extra days... I decided to take everything down yesterday.  I had a guitar leaning up against the bookcase in that room, and in retrospect, I should have moved it... it is my fault that I left it there...

I picked it up to play it for a bit and noticed a piece of wood broken out of the headstock...  I guess that my son or daughter, when they were here Christmas Eve, must have knocked it over...  I guess what really disappoints me is that they didn't tell me... maybe they didn't see the damage... I haven't been able to find the piece of wood that broke away... I imagine it's got to be around somewhere... I will try to find it and glue it back in...

On to today now... I have a light fixture over my sink, and the bulb burned out. No worries, I will go buy one... only I must have purchased some bastard-sized fixture because NO ONE has this size bulb...

No Worries... A couple of days before Christmas, I ask a retailer to order several for me... the clerk asked to keep the burned out bulb that I had carried with me for reference...  I remembered that I hadn't been called that my bulbs were in so I drove by while out running errands today to pick them up...

Wrong...  SOMEONE threw the old bulb away thinking it must have been trash.  So, they've not been ordered... No big deal... really... I came home, got the fixture and carried it so they could get the information they needed to order the bulb...

Them:   'Can you leave the fixture?'

Me:    "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Me:    "Grrrrrrrrrrr........"

Paul Thorn was raised in Tupelo, MS... he was discovered by Miles Copeland, brother of Stewart Copeland, of 'The Police'...

This is one of my most favorite Paul Thorn songs... he puts on a fantastic Live show... if you ever get the chance, catch him...

  1. Happy New Year, Shoes!

Sorry about the guitar and light bulb :( I have some odd-sized bulbs for lamps and always stock up when I find them in stores.

    Hope your week improves.

  6. @ Jessica!!! Hey you!! Happy New Year to YOU! As for the other, it's just goofy Life Shiznit... I shouldn't have left the guitar where I did... ultimately, it's all on me...

@ Magnolia.. Hey you!! This is just stuff... no big deal really... maybe a bit of disappointment that my kids wouldn't tell Dad of something like this...

@ Gucci Mama... It all going to be great!!!

@ Beryl... at this time, it's all cosmetic... The guitar has a Gibson-Style headstock that is prone to breaking if a guitar falls over... There doesn't appear to be any structural damage to it... Happy New Year!

@ Marnie... it will! It's going to be a GREAT one!!! Happy New Year to YOU!

  7. I have some odd size bulbs for fixtures here too. [No. All the bulbs are NOT dim.]

I ended up getting them form an online source. Worked fine.

  8. I hear your pain but tend to the more modern Limp Bizkit, "Break Stuff" for my inspiration.

  9. I'd be on my hands and knees for you so we can find that piece of wood. ;)

    Happy New Year XO

  10. You can say it is just stuff, but it is stress. I wish I had the "right" answer for hot to best handle it, but I don't. I know that you're disappointed that whoever knocked over/broke the guitar didn't tell you. However, confronting the kids about it likely isn't going to bring ya'll closer. Therefore, this is one of those things you have to let go. Yeah, that sucks. The whole bulb/fixture mess seems to be just a thorn in your side to test your patience. It might be time to get a new fixture with standard bulbs. I say do whatever is the least stressful solution. Especially if you find a new fixture that you particularly like. It makes it a lot easier to part with the one causing you grief. Out with the old and in with the new. Hello 2011. Say goodbye to all unnecessary stress. I am going to try and follow my own advice, just for the record.

  11. Everything is cool... I can find the bulbs... If I can find the piece of wood, I can repair the guitar, although the break will affect it's resell value.

It was just all about the people at the electrical store throwing the bulb away... it was about my kids just not telling me that they knocked the guitar over...

It was just about people not doing what they should do...

    :o)

  12. OMG! I kinda stopped reading after you mentioned Paul Thorn. I LOVE Paul Thorn! He is just incredible!!! I recently posted "Where Was I" (the saddest song, EVER!) on my blog. I saw him a couple years ago in concert - AMAZING! Will go again when he comes 'round here. You're the first person I've "met" that knows him!

Okay. I'll stop rambling and go back and actually read your post.

  13. I know this girl that has a guitar fix-it friend (missing wood or no missing wood)who does IMMACULATE work (she knows this 'cause she had some saddle damage on a priceless guitar courtesy of her child) - she has another light bulb friend...

There you go. You should meet her - she's guaranteed to help bring your stress levels WAY down. She's a really good listener - and she'll also make you grin your grin.

Guess what! I got some speakers for Christmas so right now I'm totally wigglin' around in my chair and dreaming about fireworks. :oD

If I were a less optimistic person I would think that this year has sucked all the way around (day 6? it's only day 6? holy crap.) but I'm not... and I can't help but think that I rang in the New Year in what could only be considered the perfect spot for me - the only spot for me. So... here's to 2011 - may it get better 'cuz it shur 'nuf started out perfect.

Grin while you're whoopin' somebody's butt...

  15. @ Charlene... Happy New Year to you... I am the King of 'Dim Bulbs'... just sayin'... or is that 'Dem Bulbs?'

@ Bathwater... I have to admit that I haven't heard any 'more modern' music from Limp Biskit... I will have to check them out. Just something about Paul Thorn and his driving beat on a great deal of his music really speaks to me... Happy New Year!

@ France... HAHAHA... It has to be on the floor somewhere!!! ;o) Happy New Year, you!

@ Robin... Hi there... No, I'm not going to confront anyone. I think it's just a disappointment in 'doing right...' I've lost no sleep over it, really... I have a '74 Fender Jazz bass that looks as if it's been 'ridden hard and put up wet...' but the entire guitar shows this level of playing... whereas this other one is (was) in great condition except for this blerk on the headstock...

    'And so it goes...'

    Happy New Year!

@ NiteByrd... is Paul Thorn GREAT or what?!?!?!?! I love him.. I love his voice... You know, there is SO much musical talent out there that receives little or no respect. Paul Thorn is one of them!! Happy New Year!!!

@ Gobbles... Sounds like you had a great time!! Meh... the guitar and the light bulbs.. not a big deal, really... goes more to people just not being responsible.. Happy New Year to you!!

@ Danielle... Hey you! Happy New Year!!! I hope all is well for you and your little one!!!!

  17. Ok, is today going better? If it's still a bad day you may wish to stay away from my blog for now as I'd hate to induce involuntary stomache reactions.....

Sucks about the guitar. Hope you can find that wood. I suppose I could go elsewhere with that comment...........

    Happy New Year's, Shoesies!

  18. I totally understand your frustration with the whole light bulb thing. I bought a lamp once that had this really wierd sized bulb and no one, I mean NO ONE had a bulb that would fit it. I just threw the darn thing out.

  20. @ KittyCat... I'm halfway decent at fixing shiznit... ;o)

@ Just Another Girl... HEY YOU!! Happy New Year!!! I've been out of the blogging loop... I will come over NOW and see what's happening...

I tend to not have trouble finding wood... ifn that's what you meant... hahahahaha...

    Happy New Year, YOU!

@ Tee... hey you... Happy New Year!! The whole post was just supposed to be about people not being responsible... I can buy a new light fixture... it's just that if people drop the ball or are dishonest about little things, how can we trust them with important big things...??? You know??

@ Kurt... OK... I want you on MY team!!! Let the Ass whupping begin!!!!
