Have any of you watched the HBO series made by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks? If so, you watched and learned of the heroics of the 101st Airborne, 506th, Easy Company and their involvement in events leading up and and including D-Day, as well as the Battle of Bulge.
A central figure throughout the miniseries was Dick Winters. It was announced today that he died on January 2, 2011, at the age of 92.
Winters was a quiet spoken individual that seemed to just "do what needed to be done" and shunned the spotlight...
God Bless you, Major Winters, and the men you led...

I think the coolest thing about him is that he so quietly gained respect by all that served under him while leading by example. SOOOOO much to be learned just by his heart, soul and actions.

ReplyDeletegreat man. rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteThe world needs a lot more like him. Hopefully, some people maybe learned something just from watching him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hero! I love stories like this!
ReplyDeleteYeah, he was a great man... He seemed to always try to do the right thing... That's the best legacy that we can leave behind, I guess.
ReplyDeleteAt a time when there is such bad news, stories like this go un/under-reported... *sighs*

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He was an amazing man, they don't make many men like him these days. Men of honor. Thank you for sharing his passing.
ReplyDeleteRIP Major Winters. May God be with his family and bring them comfort during their time of loss.
