I was not particularly pleased with any of the candidates from which we had to select in this last presidential election. In part, I believe the primary reason that Obama won was due to the lack of satisfaction that the American people had with eight years of Bush.
President Obama's lack of leadership with the Gulf Oil Spill will cost him any opportunity for a second term. The people down here in this part of our country are angry... they are upset. In addition, he is no longer the poster boy that captivated the world just two years ago... I think he had better enjoy the next two years...
Having said that, I am a BIG supporter of the U.S. military. In January, 2007, President Bush named General David David Petraeus as commanding general of Multi-National- Force- Iraq and would lead all U.S. forces in the military campaign in that country.
I had problems with war being waged in Iraq when our major problems seemed to be centered in Pakistan and Afghanistan, but I always supported our troops. This man made amazing progress in Iraq. He is, in great part, responsible for the success of the 'troop surge.'
MoveOn.Org., an anti-war liberal advocacy group, ran the full-page advertisement (below) in the New York Times, on September 10, 2007. This 'organization' accused General Pretraeus of "cooking the books" for the Bush White House and smeared this man's reputation.
I imagine that it took a lot of guts (sarcasm here)
to create and run this advertisement...
Imagine their shock when the Democratic version of George Bush goes and names General Petraeus to replace General Stanley Allen McChrystal, after his ill-fated comments to some 'reporter' from 'Rolling Stone Magazine.' I have no idea why General McChrystal felt he had to give that publication any credibility. That is a moot point.
It simply amazes the HELL out of me... that on June 23, 2010, after President Obama names General Petraeus to replace General McChrystal... that MoveOn.Org pulls all of those advertisements.
That is a great show of strength on this organization's position. It's ok to rake this man across the coal when someone from the 'other' political party names him to a position... but if a Democratic president (Obama) names him, it's O.K.
Where is the moral outrage from MoveOn.org against President Obama? If General Petraeus "sucked" for one president, why doesn't he "suck" for the other?
This is the photo that was copied
in the cartoon spoof above...
Damn it, if you are going to take a position on something, stick to it!! Have balls!! Don't be a damn hypocrite!!
I wish this man all of the success possible, because his troops' lives depend on it... and the safety of this country depends on it...
God Bless America
Rant Off!!!!!!
I now return to my normal level of bullshit...

The reason MoveOn.org isn't going to bitch about him now IS BECAUSE Obama promoted him, and Obama is a Democrat. And right or wrong, sucky or not, a Democratic organization is going to suck Democratic ass no matter if it is good or bad. I use to consider myself Democrat but I don't anymore. I consider myself independant right now. Because even though I voted for Obama, only because the alternative was McCain, if I had it to do over again, I would not have voted for Obama. He is a chicken shit crappy President, in my opinion. And next election I will be voting for whoever runs against him. No matter who it is. And just an FYI, word verifications suck. Unless you get alot of spam comments it sucks to have to do those word verifications that you can barely tell what the letters are, then you get them wrong and have to do them over again. I had one on my blog and didn't even know it until someone mentioned it to me. I turned it off and have never gotten one single spam comment after turning it off.
ReplyDeleteI also did not care for the GOP way of doing things in the previous administration, including the way GW was declared the victor. But enough of that.
ReplyDeleteI voted for our current president because I believed he was the best person for the job. Agreeing 100% on every matter the past two years, no. But I do feel that when a decision is made by our president, he is not reacting to some stick being poked by an enemy. He is taking council and making a decision even if it is a hard one. GW was either a puppet or a Dick Cheney acolyte, not sure which. The idea we went to Iraq because he wanted to conquer a place his dad didn't? GODAMN. If I had a child in that fight and felt that was true, I might become a radical.
As to the greed and irresponsibility that caused the spew in the Gulf, that is not our president's fault. It is the fault of people who speak against government regulation and oversight. It is the people who legislate sweet deals for corporations so they can more easily rape the land. The deregulation of banks, the sweet energy deals, the allowing persons working for the government to move back and forth to corporate jobs and then in regulatory jobs; all that is insane and not in the best interest of the citizens.
I admire Barack Obama for not doing what is expedient in order to be re-elected. There is no doubt, he stated it plainly that he was doing what he believed is right for the country and if it means he is a one term president, so be it.
That is how every elected official should act; doing what is best for the citizens not what is popular on some opinion poll. If we wanted the country ruled by opinion poll we'd not have set up the country as it was.
By the way, I will vote for the Democrat in the next election. That's what a yellow dog democrat is; vote for anyone other than the Republican. SMILE
Also, I like the word verification. It usually keeps the riff raff out.

ReplyDeleteOMG, I really agree with your point of view here, Shoesies !
ReplyDeleteI don't discuss politics on my blog because I feel like unless you are completely liberal, you will get egged for your beliefs. I don't consider myself a member of any party, I just tend to be a tiny bit more conservative than liberal, and most of the nasty rants and comments in my experience have seem to come from people from the far left.
So I just keep to myself and do my duty by voting at the polls when the time comes.
I have a huge rant for the run for the CA governor, but I wouldn't post that in a million years on my blog.
And yes, God Bless America and our troops !
As I have stated several times before, politically, I am a moderate... I found myself to the Left of the Bush Administration... and to the Right of the Obama Administration...
ReplyDeletePersonally, the differences I perceive between the two administrations are negligible...
I don't recall denigrating the past president at the expense of the current president, or vise versa...
If you are going to comment on this post, please keep it on target. The subject of this post was not the current administration, but the way in which MoveOn.org can't take a position and honor it.
If General Petraeus was not the right man for President Bush, then he should not be the right man for President Obama... yet, MoveOn.org removes their libelous smears.
@ Peggy Sue... I was unaware that I had the 'verification' mode on... the last time I tinkered with my settings, I had it set for "OFF"... maybe when some changes were made to Blogger, the default settings were all re-set. Verification has been set to "OFF."
@ Charlene... I agree... the oil leak is NOT President Obama's fault... just as Hurricane Katrina was NOT President Bush's fault.
However, I do fault BOTH presidents as to how they have chosen to respond... which is minimally...
Relief/Rescue could have and should have been sooner and quicker in being delivered to the New Orleans. As a Mississippian, I am offended at how the media treated New Orleans as the recipients of the only real damage from the storm. The Mississippi Gulf Coast was obliterated... but network TV found better images for their nightly news if it aired from NOLA.
Democrats are going to vote Democrat, and its their right. Republicans are going to vote Republican, and its their right.
If one looks at the breakdown of how different segments voted in the last presidential election, it was the independent voters that put Obama in the White House. According to NBC and CNN polls (fairly Left-leaning networks), The President is not carrying them.
@ Senorita... I have kind of a working agreement with my Democrat and Republican friends... if they will respect my feelings and views... and understand that mine are as credible as theirs are, then we can get along fine. The first time, they try to tell me that I am wrong... then I refuse to discuss anything political with them.
Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion...
Because we may differ, that doesn't make either of us right or wrong.
Again... the purpose of this post was to point out the hypocritical nature of MoveOn.org relating to General Patraeus...

I was aware of this flip-flop! of pinion by moveon...
ReplyDeleteBut maybe. Just maybe, they had a change of opinion, because in actuality; For Petro to replace Stan, was actually a demotion. Since Mac worked for and reported to Petro...
And "Rolling Stone" only proved what everyone already knows.
If you give people enough brown liquor, they are sure to bad mouth their boss eventually...
I just want all the words and talks shows and speeches to go away. I just want them to CLEAN UP THE DAMN GULF. Tired of empty promises, finger pointing and boss-bashing babies. CLEAN UP THE DAMN GULF. Also, win the damn war and bring our kids home, for cripes sake!
ReplyDeleteWow, guess I had a rant in me, too.
I'm in agreement with you on MoveOn's flip. Me thinks it a bit fishy to have removed their precious campaign against a true army leader. If nothing else, this man will do what is right for our troops.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless America and our armed forces that allow us the freedome for which we ALL should be very, very thankful.
Great post! Created quite the ruccus! Love a good poliical debate....but people take politics all so personally!!! I responded to a comment made by a friend the other day (her political views differ widely from my own) and she said that I had offended her with my take. Really? I asked why...and she couldn't give an answer. It wasn't a personal affront, it was just an observation. Funny thing, it was about the very thing you brought up in your post.
:-)
I can't even rap my mind over what is happening I just know that it will effeccomet us for years to
ReplyDelete@ Kurt... you know, when I was reading information for this post, I thought the exact same thing... about this move being a demotion... by taking this position, does he give up all of the responsibilities he had with his prior position?
ReplyDelete@ Anything Fits... me too... just as I can NOT watch MS-NBC or CNN for any length of time, I also can't watch FOX... I just want the news... I don't want it twisted, bent, slanted... I will figure out what it means... I don't need that help!
Sometimes, a little rant is good!!! :oD
@ Hi there, F8... I just know that if I take a position on something... and then I later change my mind, I will explain what caused me TO change my mind... instead of just erasing all traces of my original position in some kind of clandestine way! Yes, I think Petraeus will act in a way that will be good for the military and our country...
I like debate... It can get a little heated... and I will respect other positions... someone can tell me that they don't agree with me... don't tell me I am wrong...

@ Darn Girl... I know... my son was telling me the other day that he is so bothered by the world situation... as well as that in this country, that he may not have children.. fearful for what they could experience in their life times...
ReplyDeleteHow sad...
~shoes~
Well put.
ReplyDelete@ Heff... thanks... I just hate to see weasels not being able to take a position and hold it... it reeks of weakness at so many levels... Dammit, if you are going to take a position, then do so and hold that position...
ReplyDeleteGrrrr...
How's Alabama today??
