"It's 2:44 AM...

... and it's storming its ass off here in the Mississippi Delta...

There was a severe line of thunderstorms that came through at about 6 PM last night... much damage due to extreme straight line winds...the power was out at my house for about 3 hours...

I was sound asleep when this system was coming through...  I love the sound of night time thunderstorms...  they sound like rolling trains when you first hear them... and as they get closer, they sound like what I would imagine would be a series of artillery shellings, and the sky lights up so.   It's funny, the way our brains interpret things. When Ifirst heard the sounds of thunder, I was interpreting them as forms of communication... and it was as if I could understand what was being said.

I was out riding around looking at the damage just about sunset. The first storm had just about passed, and the sun was barely peaking through this rip in the clouds, and was throwing rays across the western sky... and I was without a camera... In the clouds all around the sunset, lightning was running across them...  I drove to the edge ot town, parked, and watched...

I love thunderstorms... There is something greatly mystical about them... greatly powerful... even greatly erotic.  At times, I think about the storms that we have going on in our own personal lives.  We weather them... we survive them.

I often wonder what early Man thought about was happening when these kinds of storms would develop, and how they interpreted these events.

And when these storms start to pass... and you hear the intensity disappear into the distance, I am saddened... I love storms.

That song by The Doors sure captured the nature of storms for me.

There's another storm approaching...

I think I shall go enjoy it...

PS:  I sure am glad to be home...

  1. Welcome home! I also love thunderstorms, though not in June. And Riders on the Storm has long been part of my storm soundtrack. (Yes, I have a storm soundtrack.)

    1. Hi there,Ryan. This storm was one of those. Greenish colored skies... vertical rain... most of the damage I've seen around town has been to trees. That just happens down here this time of year.

      They can be wicked!!

  4. That storm was AWESOME. We were watching it at 201 Poplar high up on the floors. The ground looked very different from the sky. Like everything was coming up from the ground versus coming down from the sky. I have been in several of these storms and knew this was not a good one. The wind was swirling up versus coming down.

I am a storm watcher as well. Have been in at least one of everything. Tornado (several), earthquake, hurricane and north easter'.

I usually watch them outside on a covered porch much to the dismay of my friends whom scream for me to come in.

    1. Yeah... you should know how these Mid South storms work. The one yesterday @ 6PM was really rough, but they seemed to track through this area all night long.

  6. We have some AWESOME thunderstorms down here in Hell, FL! They sound like the end of the world sometimes. The light shows are incredible.

I don't listen to much "classic rock" anymore but when I do, it's either Jim or Janis. Love them!

  7. LMBO @ "Hell, Florida..."

The light shows are amazing! Especially the cloud-to-cloud lightning that runs across the sky.

How are you? Things going ok??

  8. Thunderstorms (minus high winds) make me feel all cozy inside. A few years ago I bought a fantastic CD of fearsome thunderstorms and downpours. I would set the volume on high and sleep soundly all night.

Luckily we had a home and not an apartment, but you could stand outside at night and think you heard a storm in the distance. I must have made a lot of night-time passers-by hurry to avoid the rain.

  9. Great post!! It is stormy here in New England too!!

I also love a good thunderstorm. Making love in an intense thunder storm is the best!! Sometimes I imagine I am harvesting energy from the storm so I can become especially "electric" between the sheets.

Oops! There's that naughty side of me coming out again!! Sometimes, I really enjoy being a bad person!! LOL!!

  11. Mother Nature is a fearsome thing. I think there is a beauty in everything she throws out there. The storm. The rainbow. You don't appreciate the one without the other. The night. The day. And sometimes they feel like the same thing. Maybe it is all the same thing. Same-same. The joy is taking it all in and loving it.

    1. You are exactly right, Robin... and most of us are too busy to stop and take a moment to take it all in. We forget about the more 'important' things... don't we?

  12. Annie over at "Wine And Words"
(http://quietcommotion.blogspot.com/) left a comment, but for some reason, it didn't post to the blog... so I'm adding it here...

I have a storm soundtrack too....although it might as well be my soundtrack...

"How long have I been in this storm?
So overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form
    Water's getting harder to tread
With these waves crashing over my head

If I could just see you
    Everything would be all right
    If I'd see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
I know everything will be alright
    I know everything is alright

I know you didn't bring me out here to drown
So why am I ten feet under and upside down
Barely surviving has become my purpose
Because I'm so used to living underneath the surface

If I could just see you
    Everything would be all right
    If I'd see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
And I know everything will be alright

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
I know everything will be alright
    I know everything is alright

    Everything's alright
    Yeah, everything's alright"

      "Everything's alright
      Yeah, everything's alright..."

I do believe that everything is going to be alright... especially in the Long Run...

We all have our own havens to which we retreat when things aren't well.

Oddly enough, one of the professors that I met in Maastricht was telling me that the American South West is her favorite healing area... I asked specifically where, and her answer was... "Monument Valley"...

Things are going to be alright...

  15. @ katherine... I love storms. I have no idea why... I just do. When I was little, there were two smells I always loved, and when I'm able to smell them today, I immediately am drawn back to those days... freshly mown grass, and approaching rain.

@ Monkey Girl... I'm calling 'BullShit' on the orange bike comment. I saw the photo of the bike you got for your birthday!! BTW, Happy Birthday!!!!!!

I'm glad I'm home... this trip really wore me out.
