ARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

So we started back to work yesterday here at Alluvial Flood Plain State University... Classes started today, but we had registration for the students that hadn't pre-registered... stuff like that.

A student comes by to ask me to change her grade that she received in a Fall class from that of a 'C' to an 'Audit'... because the 'C' brings her GPA down low enough to where her financial aid won't renew.

During the course of our conversation, she (a graduate student)  tells me that she never bought a book for my class (graduate level class)... and that since she took my class as an elective to round out her schedule, I shouldn't mind making this change.  She goes on to tell me that she didn't purchase books for her other classes.

When I look at her performance from last semester, she had the lowest average of anyone in the class, yet, when I told her this, she said she had no recollection of that.  I asked if she was present when I returned the exams and we reviewed them... she replied, "I must not have been there..."  She should have received the grade of "F" instead of the "C" I 'gave' her....

It's unbelievably stupid how much this is bothering me.  Part of me wants to make this change for her, yet another part says that if she was really dedicated to her studies, she would have made a better effort...

God I hate days like today...

  2. Obviously your class is not the only class she has fucked up in if she is one grade away from loosing her financial aid.

If she was more concerned with her financial aid she would not have waited till the start of the new semester to ask for an Audit.

If giving her the audit means she has to pay for the class herself and has to take it over again then I see no harm in giving it to her.

She does seem like she is on the road to failure though.

  3. Stick to your guns, sweets.
There are no second chances these days... Employers aren't as loyal as they used to be, and she needs to step up her game to stay, IN THE GAME.
You can tell her I said so. That should do the trick.

  4. Sounds like she got lucky with the C. I wouldn't change it. This is a grad student - not some kid just out of high school.

I saw that comic last week and almost sent it to you - I was afraid you'd be insulted. Happy you posted. it.

  5. * Tee, Bathwater... yeah, I'm not sure how serious this young woman is... there's a great sub-culture here of people signing up for classes and financial aid... then taking off with the money, or mis-using the money.

    * You are right, JenJen... employers are looking for disciplined employees... as bad as the job market is at this time, I'm still able to get my better graduates interviews... she isn't one that I would recommend to my group of employers...

    * Catch Her... yeah, she was lucky... I have no idea what I must have been thinking... I have a great sense of humor... I would not hav been insulted had you sent the cartoon... :o)

  6. It is a tough spot to be in. Cheating to help someone else sheat the system. The decision is yours, good luck with it.
Be careful of that woman, she could be a danger, she's bold enough.

  7. Hi there, Secretia... she came back today to ask and beg and plead again... but I just couldn't... we all have our own levels of integrity... and I would have been allowing that level of integrity within me to be eroded....
