Swamp Music...

I should be working on grades... Summer School I Semester ended today... the grades are sad... the effort even worse.  Anyway... I'm taking a break from working on those things... and my mind is wandering...

Monday looked like a downer...
Tuesday looked like rain...
A bad altitude...
And I knew I needed a change...

Highway 61... the blues highway... runs right smack dab through the Middle of Shoesville...   Tony Joe White always makes me thing of the swamp... of the bayou country...

Just outside of Memphis...
Highway 61...
Sleepy little town down by the
Mississippi River

This is one of my more favorite Tony Joe White songs...

'Tunica Motel'

... and another one from Creedence Clearwater Revival...

'Born On The Bayou'

And I can remember the fourth of July,
Runnin' through the backwood, bare.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.
Born On The Bayou

You know... for a bunch of guys from the Bay Area, they pulled that swamp thing off rather well...

Well... I feel a bit mellowed out now... I think I have my grading system in place...

I talked with Liam Larry last night... for someone who just endured what all he had, he sounds great...

AND...

I would be VERY remiss if I didn't send BIRTHDAY wishes to Jaime over at Red Red Whine...

Hmmmm... I think those candles seem about right!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jaime!!!!!

  1. I'd never heard of Tony Joe White before. I like him a lot and the pictures on this one are really good. So, you live down that way? Where the crawfish go? You're lucky. You would never want to visit here that's for sure. No crawfish, no blues, no humor, no heart. Think I'll have another drink.
Seriously, good post except for the photo of the girl who needs to get a nose job so it can touch the wall also.

  9. IRRECONCILABLE

I think I was born in a shack on the bayou.
    I've memories of it
    small wooden porch
    creak of a rocking chair
the gentle sway of a lantern
crickets so loud they drown out sorrow
    or are sorrow
    or eat sorrow.

My eyes are the color of silt
and I've the scent of water in my hair.

    They keep telling me
I was born and raised inland
    a city dweller
but I cannot reconcile the fact

I do not live where I ought.

My soul has never lived here. (3/11)

Fabulous TJW Song! Loved watching the scenes scroll by in sepia. Have a great Fourth Professor Shoes!

  10. What's Up Shoesies ?

I am usually a good student, but no offense.... I just totally lack any motivation before the semester ends, or during summer session.

Oh, and don't laugh, but I pressed my boobs against the wall to see if I would pass your "test" as shown on the picture, and I would totally get an A !

  13. agree. CCR was one of those paradoxes of the 60s. All of that Mississippi mud BS from a bunch of burnouts from Haight Ashbury, contemporaries of Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead sounding just like a bunch of coonass gator hunters.

  14. @ Linda... I am SO far behind on my comments... blerk... Tony Joe White was from back in the mid 60's... surely you've heard 'Poke Salad Annie...'

Yes, I do live down this way... where the alligators grow so mean. I dunno, a good friend of mine lives in Shawnee, OK... there are a lot of places with no soul... Life is what one makes of it... at least that's my story... ;o)

@ Jaime... You are welcome, Birthday Girl... :o)

@ AutumnForest... Yeah, I do need a road trip... I had best get the Shoes~mobile to the shop and get it's road worthiness determined... :oD

@ Whiskey Girl... I guess I would have to offer the same opportunity to some of the guys... blerk... man boobs are NOT where it's at!!!

    @ Bouncing Barb... thank you!!!

    @ Gobbles... Thank you!!!

@ Jessica... I had a pretty OK July 4th... thank you!!
