Hey... look what I got!
AutumnForest, over at Ghost Hunting Theories, thought enough of my
I like AutumnForest's blog and find it greatly interesting... I have always had an interests in ghosts and the paranormal, and have written a time or two about some of the shows that are on television... please go read her blog; I think you will enjoy it...
Okay... I'm going to be better about following the guidelines this time than I was with the last award Bouncin' Barb saw fit to grant to me...
I am supposed to tell you seven things about myself...
Let's see...
# 1 I LOVE cowboy boots... I have recently bought several pairs of them, but I can't seem to find any as gaudy as I would love to have... I want some like those I had when I was a kid... with the fancy inlays and all of that stuff!!! Kinda like these...
or even these...
The color seems about right...
# 2 In addition to the fascination with cowboy boots, I've also developed a similar thing with cowboy hats... much kinda like this one...
N0, that does NOT say 'Creampie'...
Or this one...
One of my favorite places to visit in Santa Fe is a cowboy hat shop... when you enter, you see two old barber chairs sitting to the right... and then just this magnificent display of hats!!! The one that most caught my eye was similar to the one above, only it was constructed from what I believed to be felt... when I asked the price of the hat, I was told that it was $850...
$850!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Yup...
The fellow then went about telling me that he seats you, takes all kinds of measurements from your head, and he actually makes the hats... and that they are made from beaver skin... He went on to tell me that the greatest function that a cowboy gets from the hat is to repel rain water... keep his head dry... In retrospect, I wish I had bought one of those... maybe I will the next time I head that way...
# 3 I LOVED The Marshall Tucker Band!!!!!!!!
'I don't want you to think...
That you're the first one...
To leave me out here on my own...
This ain't the first time...
This Ol' Cowboy...
Spent the night alone...'
They had one of the BEST guitar players of that era and he got very little of the credit he deserved... Someone is still touring under the name of this band, but I'm not sure any original members are left.
~Mr. Toy Caldwell~
#4 I LOVE reading the history of and visiting battle fields of the Civil War... I have visited the battlefields at Vicksburg and at Shiloh... the horror... the terror... of what the soldiers in both armies faced at both locations are shocking. I would love to visit Gettysburg and Manassas.
'Ruggles' Battery'
Shiloh
As of April 6, 1862, this was the largest concentration of artillery power ever used in warfare... as many as 62 artillery pieces were used by the Confederate forces against the Union forces that were entrenched in a place known as 'The Hornet's Nest'...
Civil War Trivia Quiz:
A. What famous Confederate General was offered the position of Commander of all Union armies prior to the outbreak of the Civil War?
B. Why did he refuse the position??
In my opinion, both answers are very interesting!
#5 I'm becoming more and more of a care~taker for my oldest sister... and I'm OK with that...
#6 Recently, I had the exact same dream three nights in a row about my death... talk about an enlightenment... something is speaking to me about my mortality, I'm thinking...
#7 The West is calling me again...
Now, I need to pass this forward to five bloggers...
(01) Bluezy @ Bluesy's Virtual Dumpster Dive...
(02) That One Girl @ What Was I Saying Again?
(03) Yogurt @ Coffee Yogurt
(04) Leah @ Late Starter Chronicles
(05) Annie @ Quiet Commotion
Thank you so much, AutumnForest!!!

You are every bit as fascinating as I knew you would be. I was recently in Tombstone and there were tons of cowboy reenactors there and I got all giggly and schoolgirlish and nearly ran into a fence post cause I couldn't stop staring. You put any man in a hat and boots and he looks dangerous.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I want a pair of those red boots just to put that extra pep in my step
ReplyDeleteThose boots are HOT.
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of Ted from How I Met Your Mother. He's really into red cowboy boots. ;)
Also, congrats on the award!
Gen. Lee? Wasn't it because his house was in Virginia and when they seceded he felt he had to stick with the Confederacy? And the Hornet's Nest must be Charlotte...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award, Shoes!
Oh wow ~ those BOOTS!! Will someone PLEASE pass me the smelling salts???
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this post, I feel like singing a song on my guitar, and eating beans cooked on a campfire.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award!
Heeehawww! :)
ReplyDeleteIt makes a lot of since to wear a hat when it is raining too bad they are not more mainstream.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post! First off, no hat is worth $850 and the poor little beavers that die for it is sad. You can get a nice hat and water proof it for a lot less. Second, I was fortunate to see the Marshall Tucker Band about 15 years ago but total surprise at a fair. There were 3 original members and they sounded great. Heard It In A Love Song was enough to make me start dancing right where I was. When they finished, they looked up to the stars and remembered their fallen bandmate. It was fantastic. And last, dreaming about your death may be a nudge that you need to live a little more for yourself. I think if you are a care taker for your sister, that is wonderful and you should be commended. Just don't forget to live along the way! Hope this makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks shoes! I don't post awards on my blog or play nice by the rules of them :)...but I will post some things about myself. How's that?
ReplyDeleteI gots me a cowboy hat I wear when I'm farmin...and blogger Marion gave me her cowboy boots when she discovered they made her back hurt. So I'm all decked out for the hoe-down!!!
Congrats on your award!!! When you wear the boots and the hat are you gonna walk around singin', "these boots are made for walkin'..."
ReplyDelete;-D
i'm now listening to some Marshall Tucker - thank you very much cowboy!
xoxoxo

@ AutumnForest... I'm not sure how dangerous I would look with my red cowboy boots, a cowboy hat that resembles something a clown would wear, and stuff like that... Thank you for the award! :o)
ReplyDelete@ Major Mack... Those red ones would do just that.. wouldn't they?!?!?! I have found some cool boots manufactured by a company named 'Liberty Boots'... YIKES, those things are expensive!!!
@ Lemons... I have never watched that show... Is it a good thing that I remind you of that character? Ha!!!! he likes Red Boots?? That's interesting
@ Smedette... Hey you!!! You are RIGHT!!!! Abraham Lincoln had offered this position initially to Robert E. Lee... Lee's refusal was due to Virginia not having decided yet to secede... He said he could not wage war against Virginia. Just imagine, had Virginia not seceded, Robert E. Lee would be mentioned in today's history books as a Union general.
Lee graduated from West Point and had served in the U.S. Army... his father was a hero of the American Revolution...
@ Leah... I want a pair of ALL of them!!! :oD
@ Lost.In.Idaho... I have a bunch of guitars, but I'm not sure I have a cowboy guitar... beans around the campfire reminds me of 'Blazing Saddles...' HAR!!
@ France... That sounds like a good way to get your ass smacked! :op
@ Bathwater... I've found several that I think I would love to have... I would wear them!!
@ Bouncing Barb... Re: The cowboy hats, that's exactly what I am thinking.... waterproof them. Re: The Marshall Tucker Band, Tommy Caldwell was the first of the original members to die... Toy Caldwell died in the early 90's, I think, and several more since then...
My mostest favoritest Marshall Tucker song is '24 Hours' off of a live album... it totally rocks...
Re: The dream... my son is getting ready to move to Oxford, MS... he came to see me yesterday before heading over there for a few days. He gave me a hug and cried... :o( That moment we shared reminded me of the dream.
Your interpretation may be more correct that I can imagine. Thank you for that insight. I hadn't thought of it that way...
@ Wine And Words... I have some of those 'yardwork' cowboy hats, but, I'm talking REAL cowboy hats... Your suggestions sounds marvelous to me!
@ I doubt that, Gobbles... the Marshall Tucker Band did a vinyl album way back.. one side was studio, the other was live... Damn if that live side didn't just kick ASS!!!
I'm not sure, though, how a bunch of Red Necks from South Carolina can claim to be cowboys...
