We have a great country , although at times I worry about our future... about our direction... and one of the things that makes our country great is the Bill of Rights... which consists of the first Ten Amendments of our Constitution.
The First Amendment is the Right of Free Speech. What is and what isn't free speech is often debated and discussed. Generally, we are accorded the freedom to say what we want... to whom we want... within reason or boundaries...
For example, we have the freedom of speech to shout out , "FIRE!!" but not in a crowded theater... where hysteria could kick in and people could be trampled and injured... maybe even killed. So most of our Freedoms afforded to us through the Constitution are situational, I guess...
I've been home sick most of the last week... and I had entirely too much time on my hands. One of the stories that seemed to stream on TV news was the one of the Westboro Baptist Church
Fred Phelps
While members of families and their communities appreciate support such as this...
Full Military Honors...
Grieving comrades...
Turn out of an entire community...
... to honor one of their fallen...
The fellows in the fore-ground are honorable... I wish I could say the same about those idiots behind them...
... these idiots at this 'church' have taken it upon themselves to protest and demonstrate at funerals of soldiers kill in combat.... like this...
Arguments were heard last week before the Supreme Court of the United States of America (Snyder V. Phelps)... that Phelps and his ilk have the right to protest and demonstrate at the military funerals... in to interfere with his rights to do this could impede our rights to do and say what we want. Snyder is the father of slain Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder and just one of many funerals that have been disrupted by Phelps...
The fellows in the fore-ground are honorable... I wish I could say the same about those idiots behind them...
I would love to say that these people are mis-guided, but I just can't...
This is just evil...
This is just mean...
and unfortunately,
is probably protected by the Constitution...
This is just evil...

These idiots are hiding behind the disguise of being a church... a religious organization... which of course, provides no benefit to religion...
Not long ago, the media (NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MS-NBC and to an extent, FOX was lambasting Terry Jones, the minister from Florida that was wanting to burn the Quran...
And they were tearing into this fellow, basically saying that we should be concerned about the rights of Muslims around the world... and how it would be a desecration of their holy book...
... but, if Phelps has the freedom to hurt the families of fallen American soldiers, why doesn't that other preacher have the right to express his Freedom of Speech? Where is the Media and its concern about the pain suffered by the Snyders' and other families?
Don't we have the right to be concerned about the feelings and the emotions of the families of those 3,000 that were killed by muslim extremists on 09/11/2001??
I have to say that the Phelps' probably do have this right to do this...
but...
Where is the moral decency?
Where is the moral compass??
I hope the Phelps' and their ilk burn in Hell for what they've done to innocent families... IF this is what God is all about... then DO count me out!!!
I MUST be feeling better!!!!
This makes me so angry!!!!!!!

I'm not even sure what to say except - he and his family are not the ones out putting their lives on the line so that he has the ability to be a waste of our oxygen.
ReplyDeleteI'm an advocate for free speech - but I'm a bigger advocate for morals, respect... good sense, common decency and - a heart. I think it's the LACK of any and all of these traits that is quickly becoming our society today...
Carolene Brady... I need to find that article...
He will get his own back... I do believe that.
;-D glad you're feeling better!
xoxoxoxo
I went to my blog to pull up a specific blog so that I could grab a video. Your post hit me right in that spot where I want I want smack something hard. Mr. Phelps wouldn't want to run into me in dark alley. Those people with their hate signs should be afraid. Karma is a bitch. Anyway, I went to my blog and a totally different song came up on my player and I realized that maybe it was better suited to post here. Both songs are appropriate, but I feel like the universe was speaking to me. So, here is the link to the song that the universe handed to me. Watch it and let your anger out. You might have to watch it 3 or 4 times. That is how it was for me...

I didn't like seeing our flag burned in the late 60's and 70's with the anti Vietnam War protests, but that was upheld by the Supreme Court as free speech.
ReplyDeleteI don't like any of these ass wipe religious people and their hateful signs.
The best thing we could do as citizens is not put their actions in the media. Don't video, photograph, or write newspaper or magazine articles describing what they are doing. When the Supreme Court rules they can continue to do this, we need to ignore it.
You know... I think what gets me is that these families that are burying their young men and women should be allowed to do so with as much dignity as humanly possible.
ReplyDeleteAs Charlene so eloquently put it, these asswipes don't allow that...
*sighs*

The thing that I find most tragic about Mr. Phelps is that he claims to speak as a Christian, proclaiming God's will. I, too, am a Christian, and I am certain that Jesus Christ is WEEPING when He hears the hatred spewing out of this man and his ilk.
ReplyDeleteMuch has been debated about Jesus' teachings. But the overwhelming lesson in His sermons all boiled down to one simple, solitary truth: Love. Love your neighbor, love your enemies, love your parents. The greatest of these is love. These are just a few instances I can recall off the top of my head.
Can anyone spot the word "love" emblazoned anywhere on Mr. Phelp's signage? Like I said, weeping.
I am a Christian, I believe in God, and I do not support those cuntmuffins and twatwaffles that decide to protest the very people that defend our country. That is absolutely absurd and these assholes give Christians a bad name. It is because of these fuckers that Christians get ridiculed.
ReplyDeleteI am a firm believer in free speech, but this is taking it too far. It's a shame that they didn't get beat up, that someone didn't follow them into an alley and help them meet their maker.
wrong. just wrong
ReplyDeleteYes! It makes me furious! Gucci Mama has a post today about another group of pinhead, fascists turning a family's grief over the death of their infant child into a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteFree speech doesn't give you freedom to hurt others so horribly.
So perfectly spot on. You nailed it.
ReplyDeleteWe have many rights living in America. I think that one of the most important ones is free speach. You are free to speak your mind, free to show your intellegence, free to acknowledge your ignorance, and lastly you are free to be a dumb ass. Unfortunately, far to many people choose to be dumb asses. I am a firm believer in Karma. It will get them all someday! They are to dumb to know how wrong it is to do what they are doing in the name of their god, how very sad it is...
ReplyDeleteGreat job dude. I'll school you on FREE SPEECH and the Bill of Rights later. But as of now In have an award for you today...
ReplyDelete@ Stacy... I agree... there seem to be WAY too many spokespeople who are so... wrong for that job!!! I can't imagine a Devine Heavenly Father condoning such behavior...
ReplyDeleteI'm not THAT good at finding scripture, but I am good enough to know that somewhere it says something along the lines of... ' judge not lest you be judged...'
@ Peggy Sue... I know... I totally agree with you... grrrr.....
@ Senorita... I am an advocate of free speech as well, but as you said, not to the extent that it causes another hurt or pain...
@ Barefoot... yes, it is... SO wrong... How are you doing??
@ Nitebyrd... yes... to all of what you said... I read the post that Gucci Momma wrote.. its heart breaking...
@ Wishing On A Star... I, too, believe in what goes around, comes around... they will pay for it... I still don't understand that level of being so mean... so angry...
@ Kurt... thank you! I hope all is well out your way...
