Is the name
I will remember...
I know someone... that every time we would discuss music, I would talk about my favorite band... and every time I had a new favorite band... and I would... and I did...and she would call me out on it...
ppffttt...
Somewhere in my Top Ten Favorite Band list is a group of guys who originated down in New Orleans... their music seems to be a blend of New Orleans Rhythm and Blues... folk music... cajun/zydeco and gospel... just to name a few..
The subdudes
Members of the band have included Tom Malone, John Magnie, Steve Amadee, Jimmy Messa, Tim Cook, and Johnny Ray Allen.
"Late At Night..."
You may not own a pair of dancin' shoes... but if your feet don't move to this song, something may be wrong with you...
Another one of my favorite subdude songs is this one...
"All The Time In The World..."
I really enjoy their music... they have great energy at their live performances...
It was interesting to me that I selected two live performances to share... but they are that good in concert that they can pull of the studio sound.
John Magnie, Tommy Malone, Steve Amedee, Johnny Ray Allen
original line up...
They originally broke up back in 1996, but would get together and play from time to time... I had read that they recently regrouped to play at a benefit for a deceased friend.. and that was the first time that Johnny Allen had played with them since they first dissolved back in '96.
Word leaked out that they had played... and there was enough interest generated that they decided to reform and are back out on the road touring...
I was saddened to read today that Johnny Ray Allen
died last Friday...
died last Friday...
that made me think of this song...
'Carved In Stone...'
None of us get out of here alive...
as I told my doctor this afternoon,
"Life in itself is terminal..."
I want to share this song, just to leave this post on a positive note...
Wait for it...
It fades in...
... and, of course, you turned it up...
Loud...

I change my favorites all the time too but there are several bands that will always remain in my top twenty. Or at least their old stuff will remain in the top...
ReplyDeleteHi there, Elsie...
DeleteI agree... when talking music, people often want to know why I don't listen to more 'current' groups...
I do... it's just that their music doesn't/didn't have the same effect upon me that these other musicians had... I can't explain it... it just is...
I love me some subdudes... :o)

I totally get that, Red. There's something not just thought provoking but emotionally provoking about the songs I listened to back in the day. I suspect it's because I have a ton of memories of things past to go with the music and people lost along the way too….
DeleteWow that is a quote I will have to remember. "Life itself is terminal."
ReplyDeleteHowever, here is my motto too.
"Live and love in the moment as ur dog does."
Then when that terminal point comes in our life we have no regrets cuz we lived like it was our last day.
So happy to see this upbeat blog.
New Orleans so hoping to get down there October 31st but definitely will there sometime late fall as I have business. I am making my list of what I want to do and where I want to eat.
Have a blessed day Professor Red Shoes!!!
Thank you, Stormy...
DeleteI like NOLA... there are GREAT places to visit, and have wonderful meals down that way... one can't go wrong...

Happy to see those "Red Shoes" popping back up on the blog.
DeleteMy new Chief is following my blog now. And she said "Gumshoes" U know what that means right. I am like I know. Giggle giggle giggle
Happy thoughts for u!!!
I don't like the ending of this post... are you ok?
ReplyDeletestephanie
Good morning, Ms Stephanie...
DeleteI'm pretty ok...
How are you??

I have never heard these guys before today. Very enjoyable!!!
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh is hosting a bloghop wherein you feature a little known band/movie/book/TV show on your blog. I figure you have TONS of these bands and this might be right up your alley. Check out his blog to sign up. I think it is happening on the 22nd of this month. But don't quote me on that...
Good morning, Robin... they are a fun fun band!! Most of their studio work just doesn't capture their "live" sound and feel... if that makes sense... their release, 'Primitive Streak' certainly did! Cut for cut, it's one of the most consistent musical releases I have heard in a long time...
DeleteI will need to check out Ale'x post... it sounds fun...
I hope all is well with you, dear...

Love new music finds. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, you!
DeleteYou are welcome!!!

Yep I got it turned all the way up!!!!!!! Wishing I would of seen this group live.
ReplyDeleteHey you... Don't they sound GREAT?!? They had reorganized and are on tour... I am not sure how the death of Johnny Ray Allen will change that...
DeleteYou've been hearing some good music as well...

None of us get out of here alive... Ain't that the truth. I wish I could stay here forever, Shoes. I really do. I'm always amused by students who insist they wouldn't want to live to see the year 2100. I just don't get that.
ReplyDeleteSHOESeseseseses! I'm dancing as we speak. It's a difficult thing to do whilst typing.
ReplyDeleteI have an accordion just like that! I can't play it but I pretend to. Aren't they beautiful?
Anyway, I am going to get out of here alive. I'm gonna be the first to accomplish this thing. Good to have you back in the ether, sunshine ;)
Did you call him... Sunshine? But he loves to moon.... I heard his neighbors clapping.
DeleteShe DID call me 'Sunshine!!!'
DeleteI feel better already!!!!!!

Better as in happy-better or better as in still-not-good-but-better-than-last-week?
DeleteGrumpsterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
DeleteThings are pretty good, I suppose... I'm on this side of the dirt... that can't ever be a bad thing...
How are you, my friend??
~shoes~
Ah there you are! Don't make me miss you now. I've been ill all week but still very much alive, so no one's complaining. But it was somewhat of a stupid move on my part to try and give a lecture when I was having a fever and I kept coughing like my life depended on it. Promise me you'll never do that.
DeleteGreat music! I have favorites as well, however, they change depending on my mood of the day/week. lol Hope all is well with you, sweets. :)
ReplyDeleteHi there, Miss Yvonne... How are things going for you down in Houston~Town?
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope...
I'm trying to get my muse back... just been down, but ot out... :oD
