Leadon, Meisner, Henley, Frey
I like music... a lot... there are many many many bands and musicians that make up the sound track of my Life... one of these groups is The Eagles... they formed this band in 1971... after performing with Linda Ronstadt at a number of dates.
Don Henley and Glenn Frey had asked Bernie Leadon (of The Flying Burrito Brothers) and Randy Meisner (of Poco) to form a band... which later became The Eagles...
I think The Eagles can be defined by three different eras... or time frames. This composite of The Eagles wrote and recorded songs, that by today's standards, would fit into the realm or genre of country music.
One such song would be
"Take It Easy"
My favorite part of this song is Randy Meisner's background vocals... he always sang the high range... a remarkable voice, I think... and really added to the tonal quality of their songs....
Another great song from this time frame is
"Witchy Woman"
These songs all have a 'country feel' to them, I think...
Both of these songs came off of their first album, "Eagles"... their second album from this time frame was "Desperado"... and is one of my favorite recordings of theirs... this album wasn't the commercial success compared to the previous, but I think that it is marvelous.
This song was from "Desperado"...
"Tequila Sunrise"
They also included a couple of what I would call "story" songs on this album... this is one of them... and they always seem to play this song at any of their concerts...
"Desperado"
By the time their next album would come along, there would be an addition to the band that would start to change the direction of their music...

"Country feel"? maybe, then again how about a laid back feel... reminds me of the 'laid back' feel that non Californians seem to think Cali folks have- which we do, tho not as pronounced... There is NOT one Eagles song that I do not love!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Chris...
ReplyDeleteMOST definitely, "laid back"...
There is NOT one Eagles song that I do not love!
Most definitely, although there are some I like much MORE than others!!! :oD

Hello and thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comment. I have always loved the song "Desperado."
ReplyDeleteHey you... I LOVE your photography... your photos are amazing...
DeleteI think that the early Eagle music comes from a time when Life was thought to be simpler... or as I stated to someone, maybe we were just naive...
Thank you for stopping in...

Great songs!!! Always enjoy listening to these guys. Hope u are doing well.

Hi, Stormy... I love the Eagles as well...
DeleteLike up in Memphis, it is cold and wet down here today... I am pleased that the National Weather Service missed on the prediction of snow and ice, though...

If I remember correctly one or two of the Eagles are from right around here.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Bathwater...
DeleteGlenn Frey is most definitely from the Detroit area...
How are things with you?

I agree this weather sucks. I was pleased we had no ice/snow like they predicted Monday.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I must say I loved looking at the Mississippi River yesterday evening when walking my pup. The water was really "rushing". It was mesmerizing but I'm sure it was COLD.
Have a blessed day.
One of my all-time favorites. It brings back many memories. I have been launched back in time, except now I'm running down the road tryin' to loosen my load with only one woman on my mind.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, JJ... Yes, 0ne of my all-time favorites as well!!
DeleteI hope all is well in your part of Florida!!

Great music. If there were still bands out there this good I'd listen more.
ReplyDeleteHi, Stephen... I agree... I often get accused of 'ageism,' but I sure liked the music from my younger days...

The Eagles have been one of my favorites of all time. Adding Joe, Don and Mike just carried them through changing times. I had the pleasure of seeing Don Henley about 11 years ago. He was so sick with a bad cold and throat yet he wouldn't cancel and he sang all the classics. Then did 3 comebacks at each standing ovation to play just one more. Truly a pro and loved his audience.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Barbara... I have seen them twice... and would love to see them one more time... the scuttlebutt is that this current tour may well be their last one...
DeletePersonnel changes did take them through changing times... you are right about that!

I loved the fact that they said they would get back together "when hell freezes over". Of course they did and the name of that album "Hell Freezes Over." LOL. I love your musical posts!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Simplicity...
DeleteI love music... and love writing about it...
Yes, Hell Froze Over and they DID get back together!!
I trust all is well!!

I heard Lyin' Eyes on the radio last night and thought of you... Or of this post.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely say Witchy Woman and Tequila Sunrise are among my favorite Eagle songs (but is there a bad one in the bunch??). I also really love Wasted Time... They know how to pull the heart strings. I've done some of my biggest sobbing while listening to TheEagles.
Hi there, K....
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure there is a bad one... as for pulling heart strings, that's what a good song writer is supposed to be able to do...
... and they are good song writers, especially when JD Souther is factored into the mix...
I hope all is well with you!!

I have long thought that the line between Southern Rock in the 70s and country music (maybe from the late 90s to current) was thin. However, 70s Southern Rock and 70s Country are miles apart, even though all of these songs have that Country Feel you are talking about. I love this era from The Eagles. It is interesting to listen to their Greatest Hits albums and listen to the music change as you go along.
ReplyDeleteHi, Robin...
ReplyDeleteI like each of the eras for different reasons... I liked the heavily acoustic influence from this time...
Those changes in the music were, in part, due to the change in personnel...
I hope you are having a great weekend!!

I love ALL of their songs and sing along to them every single time I hear them on the radio or when I play their cds. Truth be told, I have their ALBUMS (all except one) still in mint condition. When I was in junior/high school I would many a night, either cry myself to sleep because of a stupid boy to one of their songs or sing at the top of my lungs in happiness. :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Yvonne...
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to having all of their work on vinyl as well... :oD
They really did have a great bunch of "sing-along" songs...
How's your neck of the woods this morning??

Just peachy. It's now a little after midnight and I cannot fall asleep. I thought writing sappy poetry would do the work, but no. I'm still wide awake. I'm going to go work out, maybe I'll pass out from exhaustion. ;)
Delete"I'm going to go work out, maybe I'll pass out from exhaustion. ;):
ReplyDeleteI've discovered that I can stay up TOO late!! Exhaustion is NO fun!!

Well, I came back to this post and listened to Desperado, and now I just feel like sitting around in a melancholy haze. In a good way. Gotta go find me some Queen and get energized.
