Part II
James Taylor and J. D. Souther...
I wrote last about J.D. Souther and his wonderful compositions... I guess I was so fixated on his work with Glenn Frey and the Eagles that I totally forgot this gem!!!!
I found an older blog post by someone that describes it much better than I can. HERE is a link to his description.
He has a new recording out... 'Natural History'... it would be tantamount to what one would call one's greatest hits...
"How Long"
'Natural History'
J. D. Souther
AUGH!!!!!!!!!
So stripped down and so beautiful!!
There is an interview where he said he wanted this album to sound like it would if you happened to come by his house and catch him playing while sitting on his sofa...
What a voice...
"Best Of My Love"
'Natural History'
J. D. Souther
Still such an outrageous voice...

James Taylor and Souther both have a sensitivity in their voices that make me melt... maybe its the combo of the melody, the laid back sound, the song? The Eagles had the same effect..Dang, what happened to the Eagles? anyway they reeked of sex appeal.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Chris...
DeleteIt's been a messy, cold, icy weekend in the Mississippi Delta... with the promise of more freezing rain tonight...
I like your description of their voices... A sensitivity... a warmth...

their voices remind me of home....a metaphor for familiarity, security...
DeleteExactly... I understand what you mean...

Love James Taylor. We've seen him live in concert several times and he never fails to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteHi, Stephen... I think I have seen him three times... and each time was better than the previous!
DeleteI love his voice... I love the ease with which he sings... and I love how humbled he seems after each song as he accepts the applause.
What a great musician he is!!

Could sit and listen to these guys all night long! Just incredible talent and voices that make you melt. At least I do.
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb... I think these two fellows enjoy each other's company a great deal. I think it would be a wonderful show to experience.

James Taylor! Man! I could listen to him forever. Same for the Eagles. You're really tugging at my memories with these songs. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHi there, Yvonne... As I stated earlier, I LOVE his music!
DeleteMy favorite song is a toss-up between two songs he's always plays... "Mexico" and "Wasn't That A Mighty Storm!"
