Part Of The Plan
I have been goofing off some when I should be working on exams, and grading of projects and assignments... but I needed a break.
I was reading over at Kimber's blog, 'Drifting Through'... and she posted a Dan Fogelberg song... and I kind of got side tracked with Dan and his music.
I've always had such a great weakness for his music... he was a story teller to me... not like Jim Croce or Harry Chapin, but a story teller none the less. I always seem to have been able to find messages for me in his songs.
I have these moments
All steady and strong
I’m feeling so holy and humble
The next thing I know
I’m all worried and weak
And I feel myself
Starting to crumble.
The meanings get lost
And the teachings get tossed
And you don’t know what you’re
Going to do next.
You wait for the sun
But it never quite comes
Some kind of message comes
Through to you.
Some kind of message comes through.
And it says to you...
Chorus
Love when you can
Cry when you have to...
Be who you must
That’s a part of the plan
Await your arrival
With simple survival
And one day we’ll all understand...
I had a woman
Who gave me her soul
But I wasn’t ready to
Take it.
Her heart was so fragile
And heavy to hold
And I was afraid I might
Break it.
Your conscience awakes
And you see your mistakes
And you wish someone
Would buy your confessions.
The days miss their mark
And the night gets so dark
And some kind of message
Comes through to you
Some kind of message
Shoots through --
Chorus
There is no eden or
Heavenly gates
That you’re gonna make it to
One day
But all of the answers you seek
Can be found
In the dreams that you dream
On the way.
What a great place in which to lose oneself...
Here's another one...
possibly my mostest favoritest...
He didn't write this one, but it's great all the same...
These songs all have meaning to me.
And then this one... *sighs* what a great great song...
Hard to believe he has been gone four years this month...

Yay to goofing off during workdays! :D
ReplyDeleteI've noticed you goofing off more on fb ;) good for you... sometimes you need to blow off work and do nothing
ReplyDeleteSeveral of us were listening to music and a Dan Fogleberg song came on, we were all, "who sang this?!" Had to resort to google. He's got that familiar voice that I can never name. Never owned any of his albums, guess that's why, though I love his music.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful songs, Shoes. And good on you for goofing off - I love you more because of it!
ReplyDeleteOMG Shoes, I didn't even realize he was dead. Love his songs. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteHey, I've been totally goofing off too. Projects, exams... did you know I'm a student? It would be cool to have you as a professor!
ReplyDeleteI love these songs. They are like... Gospel Music. Singing about Truth. Love. Life.
<3
Kimber
oh, my god - make me teary-eyed with "leader of the band," why don't you? that's the one song on earth that reminds me most of my daddy.
ReplyDeleteeven though he HATES dan fogelberg.
related story: when i was a kid in the mid-80s, i lived next door to a family with a kid my exact age. that kid's mom was IN LOVE with dan fogelberg. i mean, so much that she said her "get out of marriage free" card was dan fogelberg. hee, hee.
"Love when you can
ReplyDeleteCry when you have to...
Be who you must
That’s a part of the plan"

I've always loved his music, but this time of year it's all about Same Old Lang Syne for me. He was a hell of an artist.

He was a wonderful artist. It's sad that he, Jim and Harry are all gone but at least we are still able to enjoy the beautiful work they left.
ReplyDeleteOk, so you got my curiosity up because I have never heard of this guy before... so I clicked on your link. Wow. It was like a was magically transported into that wonderful world of 80's wear leg warmers and teased hair ran amuck! I bet Richard Simons worked out to this music, didn't he??
ReplyDeleteI actually cried when I heard he had passed away. His song "Longer" was one of my favorites when Eric and I were dating. He bought me the album (VINYL!!)
ReplyDeleteand I still have it.
I hope things are smoothing out for you. I'd like your next post to say that you're feeling better in general.
((hugs))
'You wait for the sun but it never quite comes...' that's a great lone. I should be grading papers, too, but I've been ill for a couple of months now, waiting for the sun. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteMe goofing off two!!! I might have said this before but I could not attach myself to Dan because my sister "tagged"him first. That's how bad it was for my sister and I. Whoever tagged a band first got them and the other was not allowed to buy any of their albums or go to their concerts. Luckily, I got the Stones and Pink Floyd. But she got Led Zepplin :(
ReplyDeleteI forgot how much I like him. I am going to have to add him to my IPOD.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Robin... he was good!
DeleteHow are you??
