Guess where I went this past weekend?
Yes, I went down to New Orleans to visit GirlShoes and her husband, Heff Bert...
This was out in the garden as well... no doubt influenced by
I would SO drive this car!!
In the years that she has lived in NOLA, this is the first time we were able to make a Mardi Gras parade..
We had a great time...
We both came away with tons of beads... The trip wasn't without some serious times... On Saturday night after we got back to the house, Girl Shoes was telling me that she hadn't talked to her Mom since before New Years... She and her Mom have some serious issues... I know of one time that her Mom went for over six months without talking to GirlShoes... and this was while she was still at home...
She thanked me for never ever leaving her alone... even during the times that she was a real pain in the ass troubled... I couldn't abandon my daughter or my son... I just couldn't...
Afterall...
taken by some turkey at the City Grocery,
Oxford, Mississippi...
I'm the sane one in the family...

Earlier this evening I was visiting a blog with pictures of New Orleans - the blogger had just gotten back from a trip there! Maybe you saw each other and didn't know it!

And? I can't believe I've lived in the south for 20 plus years and have never been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Wow, looks like it was a fantastic weekend!

Looks as if we both had good weekend get aways last weekend. The weather was great for it. I posted a movie today of my little Kidnapping.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you, I hope you have a great weekend Shoes. I'm going to try to.
Carol-the gardener
I have always wanted to go there! One day, one day. And the world needs more guys like you who stand by their kids, no matter what.

p.s. Your pictures ROCK!!! I love the way you see things! I'm glad you had fun at the parades... those shoes were made for walkin'...
Mother/Daughter relationships suck when one wants a closer relationship than the other. Your daughter will work it all out in the end and find the "relationship" that works best for her heart.

Fabulous pic's!! I love the mask your daughter made, I would totally love that in my garden.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fantastic weekend get away!
Doesn't it make you feel like you've done a good job when your kid thanks you for being a "parent"? It sounds like you've done a good job. Her mask is just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to being jealous that you were in NO for a Mardi Gras parade. It's something I've always wanted to do. I do ♥ NO, big time!
@ Yogurt... I went and viewed the blog you cited, and yes, that is the area where my daughter and I hung out. She lives out in that area of NOLA.
ReplyDelete@ Tuppence... yes it was!! We had a great time... and how are YOU doing?!?!?!? ;o)
@ Carol... Hey you... I would love to know how you made that video... I LOVE it!! It looks like you two had a great time!!! :o)
@ Helle Kristine Tumbridge... Thank you. Re: parenting, I guess I was initially inspired by my Mom and the kind of parent she was... and later realized/understood that my Dad did the best he knew how to do. I could see that he tried. I had a young man in class last semester whose sperm donor was a very recognized NFL football player. As it turned out, he has only talked to him a couple of times in his entire life, yet, his Mom would try to make as many games as possible. I never met her, but she is a class act in my book...
I would love to vist your part of the world. My son has been there and he LOVES it.
@ Gobbles... GirlShoes has told me that on good days, they are friends. I think that is sad, but its better than no relationship, I guess. Still, I am bothered when my daughter grabs me and cries because of a hole in her life. I suppose it is wrong to expect a parent to understand that we are responsible for those we create...
Does that make sense?
@ Amethyst Anne... I did have fun with her. She is a good "kid" and she definitely marches to the beat of a different drum. But I suppose that is ok... :o)
She is quite artistic. Thank you for your kind words... :o)
@ Nitebyrd... I hope after that look at GirlShoe's Life mask, you can understand even more so how MUCH she loved the VooDoo doll I bought from you for her Christmas.
I hope I've been a good Dad. I hope that some day when I'm gone, that Boy and Girl Shoes will have some nice words to throw my way. I hope they will remember me kindly.
Like my Dad, I've tried to do the best I knew how to do... I haven't been perfect, but I have tried.
You need to go to NOLA for a Mardi Gras. Maybe we would run into each other down there!

ReplyDeleteawww. new orleans! i was just there on presidents' day weekend. god, i miss it already.
ReplyDeleteand a BIG cheers to daddies who tend to daughters with rough relationships with their mothers. my daddy did that for me, and it got me through it. my daddy is my best friend. the way he helped me is a large reason why. :)
