but if Memphis needs to be remembered for anything, it is probably St. Judes' Children's Research Hospital...
John 'Bad Dog' McCormack
This hospital was the result of a brainstorm by Danny Thomas... One of my favorite radio stations in the world is located in Memphis, TN... Rock 103... The goal of St. Jude's is to find cures for the different childhood cancers that so ravage the little ones...
They play the music I enjoy listening to, but I also enjoy the radio personalities they have... one of my favorites has always been John "Bad Dog" McCormack... affectionately known just as "Bad Dog" to the listeners.
One of the events that "Bad Dog" seemed to enjoy SO much was the St. Jude Radiothon which is held each year... They broadcast for 24 hours non-stop, and raise all kinds of monies for the center... "Bad Dog" would always plead with listeners to please contribute, because the kids of St. Jude SO need the funds that are raised by their endeavors...
In 2009, "Bad Dog" was diagnosed with leukemia... and he fought hard for the past two years... Last Thursday, March 10, "Bad Dog" died from complications of his illness... This passage comes from the Rock103 website:
"I have gone to be with God and he is holding me tightly and I am surrounded by many of the Ronald McDonald House kids. Do not say you have lost a friend. One is only lost when you don't know where they are.. you know where I am.
I thank each and every one of you for your support and prayers. I love all of you and that will never go away. When you are having a bad day, think of my laugh or a Twilight Phone or the time we met. None of us is guaranteed tomorrow, make every day great, be the spritual leader of your family. May peace be with you. Your friend, Bad Dog."
St. Jude's and Memphis have lost a special person... He will be missed...
"None of us is guaranteed tomorrow...
Make every day great..."
We all need to remember this.
Make a difference in someone's Life...
Pay It Forward...

St. Judes does amazing work.
ReplyDeleteI looked up Bad Dog and learned he did amazing work for the Ronald McDonald House. Humanity lost a great one.
Thanks for telling me about him.
I am Marketing Director for the blood bank. I follow so many of these stories as we hold blood drives to collect blood for cancer patients. It hurts my heart each time one of them doesn't make it.
ReplyDeleteSee ya later Bad Dog.
I love this post.

How sad. He was a great one. RIP Bad Dog.
ReplyDelete"Bad Dog" was SO devoted to the Ronald McDonald House!! He always had this great laughter... when you heard him laugh, I couldn't help but laugh... sometimes, I would have no idea what it was all about, but he got his moneys worth out of humor and Life.
ReplyDelete@ 'Wine and Words'... that is SO cool!! I donate blood through Mississippi Blood Services here... I had no idea that one donation went so far!! I think the last statistic I heard was that one donation can affect three lives...
As a further testament to "Bad Dog," several of the Memphis television stations are going to air his services on a live feed.
He was a character...
