"Dealey Plaza, Dallas, TX - 03/16/2010

From my journal entry of last evening:

I am sitting and writing this entry at the same exact spot where Abraham Zapruder stood on November, 22, 1963 and filmed the assassination of John F. Kennedy...

On TV... in the news... this seemed to be such a large area... but it's not...

The sign behind which the presidential limo disappeared on that day is gone... and a large "X" marks the spot on Elm Street where the 'Fatal Shot' hit JFK...

When I first got here, I had goosebumps... the hair on my arms actually stood on end...

The distance from the 6th floor of the School Book Depository to where the fatal bullet struck is not that far!!! Not that difficult of a shot to have to make... nor is the distance from the grassy knoll... where another alledged gunman was said to have been standing... anywhere along that way provides a clear shot at the presidential limosine...

The area is so compact... it had to have been a horror to have been there that day and see this happen... there was no way that anyone standing in that general area could not have witnessed what Zapruder's film shows of the impact of that last shot...

What a historically significant place...

Amazing... simply amazing...

_______________

When you consider that the motorcade had its route changed... and required that a right turn be made off of Main Street... and then a left turn onto Elm Street... one almost has to seriously consider the idea of a conspiracy... the shot from the 6th floor to Main Street is not an easy shot... nor is the one from the grassy knoll...

I've always been one that has somewhat poo-pooed the idea of a conspiracy... but now I don't know... I really don't...

This location was so somber... I will never forget it...

Tomorrow I am heading to San Antonio and the Alamo...

  2. I always find it amazing how watching the media can influence one's thoughts and make a person believe something is different then it actually is. Then, ya go to the place ya saw in the news and realize just how much reality and your perceptions were skewed.

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time. I have always wanted to see The Alamo. I sometimes wonder if anyone marked the spot where Ozzy Osbourne took a leak with some sign like "Ozzy was here.". Lol.

  4. I'm back... what a trip!!!

@ Senorita... I had a blast... I have a post to make later about the Alamo...

@ Shelly... yeah... the entire area when I saw it on TV always seemed so much larger in area... and in reality, it is such a small confined area... one that if I wanted to try to arrange for an assassination... would be just the right size with limited opportunity for escape... I am still in awe of that place...

@ Jaime... I had a great deal of fun... got to see The Drive By Truckers at SXSW... wanted to see Big Star, but it wasn't going to work into my schedule... and then I learned today that Alex Chilton died... :o(

  5. I like your description. I have stood right where you stood several times and it never fails to make my hairs stand up and my mind wander...

You are so eloquent! Next time I stand in that very spot I will think about your words.

  6. @ Hi there, Red.Neck.Chic...

Yeah, it's amazing to stand there... and occupy that same space... separated by the events of that day only by 'time'...

Thank you for your kind words...
