Scattering Scooter...
Day 4
We spent the night in Taos... woke up the next morning... decided to have breakfast there, drive to Santa Fe and play some... and then head towards Monument Valley...
We found this fun little coffee house called 'The Coffee Spot' on the north end of Taos... had breakfast on its patio...
The Coffee Spot
... and this was our view...
After breakfast, we were on our way to Santa Fe...
One of my favorite places to visit there is the O'Farrell Hat Company...
This fellow makes western hats... 100% beaver hide...
They are expensive...
They are expensive...
and his work is unbelievable...
I don't own one of his...
yet...
... but I do have one of these!
Anyway... I digress...
... but I do have one of these!
Anyway... I digress...
We hit the road, heading for points West... as far as we felt we could go this day...
We made it as far as Farmington, New Mexico...
There is a nice rock formation near here called...
not my photo...
Ship Rock is a "volcanic plug"... it is formed when magma hardens in the vent on an active volcano... and over eons, the softer material around the plug erodes.
We found a neat restaurant in downtown Farmington where we could have dinner... and noticed an interesting building across the street...
If you will notice along the top of the building, there are swastika designs...
Prior to the use by the Nazi in World War II, this design had been prevalent for over 3,000 years... where the meaning of the design was about 'Life' and 'Good Luck'...
Who knows how old this structure is, but it may well pre-dateWWII.

I believe that swastika has Indian origins. I saw them everywhere in India.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, Stephen... I think you are correct...
ReplyDeleteQuestion... Where have you NOT been?
HAR!

I have honestly never heard of a beaver hide hat. Did I read that right? Those hats are made of beaver hide???
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon...
DeleteThey are made from beaver...
Here is what I copied from his web page:
Premium Blend hats are 75% Beaver / 25% European Hare.
Pure Beaver hats are --- well, 100% Beaver, the finest quality you can get --- period.
He told me that the hats that the cowboys used to wear were beaver... that they would be durable in the worst of weather... and that the lost of ones hat was almost as bad as losing ones firearm...

The Coffee Shop is just ADORABLE. That would be a very cute coffeeshop to work in.
ReplyDeleteThe cuff links to die for--
I like them a lot.
Ur pictures breathtaking.
The drive I'm sure was very long and tiring. When I journey long distances now, I like to take the time to stop and enjoy unique places I might never get an opportunity to see again. It goes with the saying that the journey is the best part of our life. Unfortunately, we spend too much time thinking about the destination and miss out on so much around us in our hurry to get from point A to point B. Aka my first trip to Savannah, GA. Next go around I'm going to research and find a unique stopping point about five hours in.
And, of course, when one travels with a pet, one has to consider his/her needs too. ProfessorAlex is a wonderful companion to travel with--
I look forward to many trips with him.
I am happy that u finally got to go again to ur spiritual place.
"Gumshoe?"
ReplyDeleteHAR!!
That was a neat coffee shop... and as for the cuff links, there was another set I wish I had bought as well... Native American motif...
It was good to get back out there... I just wish I had been able to spend more time there... I will probably go back again later this summer...

Blue thought it fit me perfectly when he did his "Shoe" blog. I agree totally. So my personality/character.
ReplyDeleteI looked at other pics of that Coffeeshop that so looks like my type of place.

Take care and have some blessed days. Summer school starts soon. No???
I didn't get a bill of sale or anything that would tell me the name of the store... it was in the plaza area there... I'm going to do some searches for antique stores out there and see what I can find... I would love to have them...
DeleteYes, even though it would be hot as Hell, I would still go in the summer... it has that effect on me...
Summer School starts this next week if I have high enough numbers...

Your post makes me feel like we all took this trip with you. I'm sure that would have been a site to see all of us crammed into your truck. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had someone go with you but at the same time agree that having someone else can also make a big difference on getting to where you need to go.
All in all, Liz, I wish I had gone by myself... I did all of the driving anyway...
DeleteAs much as I have shared Scooter with everyone, I did want everyone to know how this went. I've never done this before... it was a new experience for me... I think about the things that have happened for me over the past 6 years... I am amazed...

I love the scenery by the coffee shop. I wish I could just jump in the picture and be there!
ReplyDeleteGood evening, Sherry... it really was a fun place to sit and have breakfast and coffee...
