Located...
... in southern Peru, one can find the Nazca Desert... which is home to the 'Nazca Lines'... there was a native civilization that lived in that region from about 200 BC - 650 AD... the Nazca... of course, there are other civilizations that date back to around 2400 BC...
This area of the Desert is roughly a mile wide and thirty-seven (37) miles long. The designs are of two types: biomorphs and geoglyphs... The biomorphs consist of 70 animal and plant forms and shapes...
One of the misconceptions is that they are invisible to the naked eye when at ground level. This isn't true, of course, but they are difficult to see and recognize... while from the sky, the shapes are perfectly clear and the lines are amazingly straight.
Some have suggested that these designs may have some connection to life forms from other planets... alien-made if you will... and that the lines, which do seem so similar to runways at airports, may have served as navigational devices for some kind of airships, or even UFOs.
The designs seem to have been made by simply wiping away the iron oxide pebbles that cover the ground. This would leave the white sands underneath... and since the climate is virtually wind-free, the designs would/could last for eons... and granted, if they are as old as suggested, that's exactly what has happened.
One scientist has proposed that maybe the designs were orchestrated either by some people in the earliest of hot air balloons, or even some form of space craft.
Evidence exists that human sacrifice was performed among these designs, which would indicate that the designs served some sort of religious purpose...
Eight mummy bundles, such as the one above, have been discovered scattered among the site. Each of the figures were headless, which would indicate decapitation... and were accompanied by a jar that was painted to resemble a head... complete with eyes and other facial features. Within the mummy bundles, the guest of honor was in a seated fetal position.
The Nazcas were known to be head 'collectors'... so it's possible that these individual could have been captives that were doomed for sacrifice.
I guess the inspiration to write about this came to me this morning... I had the TV on while I was getting ready for work... and Giorgio was on... talking about the Nazca Lines...
... and aliens...
SURPRISE!!!!

Given that they can be seen from Outer Space, can we rule out aliens? Can we rule out anything? I am not closed to the idea of aliens having been here. Of course, you can see why they wouldn't want to stay....
ReplyDeleteHi there, Robin...
ReplyDeleteGiven what we are learning about space... the composition of outer space... and the number of planets out there that could theoretically support Life as we know it, I don't rule out the option of aliens either... Maybe Giorgio from 'Ancient Aliens' is growing on me...

IT really seems odd that an ancient people would sit around and decide to make all those lines and shapes that could only be recognized from the air.
ReplyDeleteThey my have simply felt their gods were in the sky but you would think they would want some kind of feedback from someone as they worked.
Hi there, Bathwater...
DeleteYeah, given that point in time... for them to be thinking... 'hey, let's make something that can be seen from up there!! Based on what we know today, they didn't have the means to see it... I read somewhere that there was speculation that the designs may have been created on a smaller scale... and that some of the other lines that exist on the desert floor were parts ot 'guide lines' that were created so that the larger images could be drawn.
Any way one looks at it, that's a pretty creative thought process!!

I saw that. Isn't it the most awe inspiring thing? Makes you really wonder...
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Ana... it really does make one think about it. Imagine if you decided to take the different items that you paint and draw... and decided to take an area of ground the size of several soccer fields.. and create your images there.
DeleteI hope all is well with you!!

Interesting post! I've never heard about the Nazca lines until now. There are so many different theories as to who or what created these things including Stonehenge and the Pyramids. I hope they never solve it only because I think some things should remain a mystery and as the above commenter wrote, awe inspiring.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Princess...
ReplyDeleteYes, the same ideas do apply to those sites you mentioned!! It is equally amazing that the pyramids in Central America and Mexico were built at almost the exact same time as the pyramids in Egypt were being constructed....
At times, it all just seems to be TOO much of a coincidence...
Have a great weekend!

I have heard of the lines but didn't know about the mummies though.. now that is eerie
ReplyDeleteHi there, Liz... like you, I had heard of the lines as well. I learned about mummy bundles and such way back once upon a time when I was married... the then-spouse studied fiber art and Pre-Columbian art at the University of Georgia...
ReplyDeleteIt's all amazing at what there still is to learn!

Fascinating what the ancient cultures did, I agree. Maybe they were guided by aliens or possessed by aliens or slept with aliens? It's the angel picture too - hovering beings in the sky -AKA - alien.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Juliette...
ReplyDeleteAncient cultures are the Shiznits!!!!!
Maybe they were guided by aliens... possessed...
Slept with Aliens? Now there's a concept... maybe a new band name...
Have you ever slept with an alien (i.e., an interstellar being; not someone from another country HAR!)??

I've never heard of this before, thanks for sharing. I like the idea that we don't really know how this came about, I'd like to keep it that way. Mystery and wonder are a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Ms Yvonne!!
DeleteI think having a great degree of mystery in Life is a good thing... sometimes, I fear we want too many answers to too many things.
As you said, "Mystery and wonder ARE a beautiful thing.

Fascinating. I have been to Peru, but have not seen these treasures. I am convinced, however, they are not from outer space. Based on what we know about science, these aliens would have to have a negative energy source. All the energy on our planet put into a ship the size of Earth could not get us out of our solar system. However, I hope I am wrong.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, JJ... you have been to Peru?
DeleteI am SO jealous!!! Did you make it to Machu Picchu??
I would love to see that place.
Re your thoughts on Aliens... you are right... unless they know a Hell of a lot more about those things than we do!!!
I hope all is well with you!!

I saw a very interesting show where engineers and surveyors were able to duplicate those patterns without hovering above them.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, I sure love that hummingbird! Actually all the images were uncharacteristically whimsical for head collecting tribes...
Nice piece Shoes!
Hi there, Linnnnnnnn...
DeleteYes, it would be quite easy to do (create the shapes without hovering over them)... I recall when I was a student back in high school, I loved to draw and paint. I was asked to create a huge mural of a 'Wildcat' head to hang in the gym for basketball games...
I drew a small page-size head, marked it off in one-inch grids, and then bought a huge piece of oil cloth and marked it off in one yard grids... and copied my process.
I guess one would have to try to understand why these tribes thought it necessary for these to be visible from the skies... maybe it was for no other reason than to humor their gods...
I would never try to understand what would strike the fancies of head hunters...

Good Evening
ReplyDeleteThis was a fascinating read. I've always wondered about these lines and how they actually came to be??? Aliens perhaps, I do not rule out the possibility of some form of alien life. I've always wondered about the great pyramids and how the same technology would be used in different locales on the globe. Don't you find that a bit odd since there was limited travel in those days. Some say Egyptians were great engineers but, I think there was more going on than we understand. There are many unexplained events in the world.. some believe we can cross realms or dimensions. This is a great thought provoking post. My mind is spinning in many directions would enjoy discussing this more with you.
How are you my dear friend?
Good afternoon, Trudessa...
DeleteThank you... ancient civilizations have always been of interest to me. Trying to understand the civilizations, one also needs to understand the Art of those cultures... the answers to our questions have to be somewhere....
In the construction of Machu Picchu, as well as other Incan structures in Peru, it is said that the stones are cut so cleanly... and laid together, that it is impossible to fit a sheet of paper in between the stones.
I'm ok... I've just been stupidly busy... when one is mentally challenged to start with, being stupidly busy really isn't such a challenge...

I popped over here after seeing the whovian shoes avatar on another blog comment . . . what a nice surprise to see something so introspective.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Ella... good afternoon!
DeleteThank you for your kind words... I never seem to know what is going to show up here...
Thank you for stopping by!
