Neil Young...
Augh!!!!!
Probably one of my mostest favoritest guitar players EVER!!!!!
Lil Neil
After the Keith Richards' pictoral Time Line that I did last week... I thought it would be interesting to do one for Neil...
Prolly Mid-20's Neil
This photo isn't so much about Neil
as it is that guitar... he was always fond of
Gretsch White Falcons back in the day...
The song of his that I just adore is "Harvest Moon"...
One of the things that I find so endearing about it is that woman he is dancing with in the video is indeed his wife...
Neil and Pegi...
The difference between his 'electric' music and 'acoustic' music was just unbelievable to me, especially when he toured and recorded with his band, Crazy Horse...
Now... I'm not going to say that Neil hasn't walked on the Moon in some form or fashion, but Neil Young was never an astronaut (the goofball meant Neil Armstrong).
Now... the Neil Young song that is probably my favorite NY song... is...
Cinnamon Girl!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this particular video... the live sound of the band is good, and I love that they included members of the audience... I like the girl's reaction to the end of the song at the end of the video... if, during the credits, you notice a director by the name of Bernard Shakey, that is an alias that Neil Young sometimes uses...
45-plus years of rockin' in the free world and time takes its toll on all of us...
Little is known about his personal life... and I guess that's the way it should be. I would encourage you to read THIS article... He is the father of two children who have cerebral palsy, and one child who has epilepsy...
The last time I actually saw Neil Young in concert, he was with a reunion tour of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young...
A great deal of my desire to own a Gretsch White Falcon is because of him...
Keep On Rockin' In The Free World, Neil...

I have so much respect for NY as a man and a musician, and also you for being a fan of his too :-)
ReplyDeleteHi there, Leah... :o)
DeleteI certainly appreciate you placing me in that pool...
How are things in your part of the world??

I love your appreciation & enthusiasm for music. Music-- it nourishes the body, mind and soul of all individuals.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Princess... I think Music... or Art... all nourishes our bodies, minds, and souls... :o)
DeleteI hope all is well with you!!

I love the song FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH. I will come back and listen to the others later. I have things I MUST do. I agree with you about celebs and their lives... keeping it private is best. Have you noticed that the ones who are most successful at that seem to be the most fulfilled as people? Their relationships last. They have a solid foundation. The celebs who put their relationships out there for public scrutiny are always living on shaky ground, so that their most personal relationships, which should ground them and keep them solid, don't. They are always like ships in troubled water. One would think that eventually a lesson would be learned here. I suppose that some do, and some don't It's the nature of people. Thank you for sharing this Shoes. While I love the music, you always give just a little bit more, and that is what makes it awesome:)
ReplyDeleteHi there, Robin... I've been trying to recover from 'the cold from Hell' over the past week... augh!!!
DeleteI think if more people, celebrities or not, kept more of their lives private, they would find living them, and fulfilling them to be a bit more successful.
How are things with you??

Neil Young's half-sister's band opened up for my band at the Whiskey (-A-Go-Go) quite some time back. I tried to get with her. I mean, hell, she's Neil Young's half-sister. As much as I would love to tell you more... there was no more. At least not with Neil's half-sister. She wanted nothing to do with me.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Steven...
DeleteAt least you can say you tried... :op
Was her voice a half-tone deeper than Neil's?
I hope all is going well for you...

Back "In The Day" I owned several Neil Young albums, but as I got older, my musical tastes turned more toward Blues and then Jazz.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt though, my all-time favorite Neil Young song is 'A Horse With No Name'. Did any other song capture so much of Neil Young's Neil Youngness in a single recording?
Alright, I admit that I'm being facetious (sort of).
In truth, my all-time favorite Neil Young song is (and by a huge margin) 'SUGAR MOUNTAIN'.
The theme of that song is one that has always been near and dear to my heart (of gold).

"...my all-time favorite Neil Young song is 'A Horse With No Name'."
DeleteHA!!!!
I KNOW!!!!! That also reminds me of a song by a group called 'The Knickerbockers' that had a song by the name of "Lies"... sounded JUST like the beaTles...
"Sugar Mountain" is indeed a great song!!!

I LOVE Harvest Moon. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Ana...
DeleteI do too!! On so many levels and for so many reasons!!!

I was listening to "Harvest Moon" just this morning! My favorite Neil Young is "Helpless".
ReplyDelete:-)
Hey you...
DeleteI LOVE "Helpless!!!"
One vinyl record that I continued to wear out was "4-Way Streets" by CSNY... it was s compilation of live shows they did... and a great version "Helpless" is on it...

For What it's Worth is probably one of the most perfect songs to ever exist. It's hard to compare the artists today to the genius of Neil Young.
ReplyDeleteHey you! How is married life going?? :o)
DeleteRe: 'For What It's Worth'... I TOTALLY agree!!!!!
I hope everything is going wonderfully well for you!!!

Have you heard Oh Susanna? If not, check it out. I agree with Phoenix. He is a genius. Keep on Rockin', even in our world.
ReplyDeleteHi there, JJ...
DeleteI had NOT heard that song, but just listened to it...
I hope all is well for you...

I enjoy the juxtaposition between My, my hey hey and Hey, hey, my my. The acoustic vs the electric... very cool.
ReplyDeleteHey there, BW... How goes it??
DeleteHis acoustic work could be so... ethereal... yet, his electric stuff SO over the top...
I always thought it was cool as well... :o)

To hell with the White Falcon! Those sideburns steal the show!!
ReplyDeleteI also love Harvest Moon. It was the opening song at my first wedding - the marriage that sucked a lot less than my second
Hey there, Lil Dreamer...
DeleteHe DID sport some serious sideburns... didn't he? I also opted to use my testosterone for something other than growing facial hair... of course, it doesn't necessarily mean I was successful at it... HAR!!
Do marriages get worse, the more often one repeats? I would love to be married again... are you saying that I shouldn't?
:op

Always love your musical history lessons Shoes! I wanna sign up for the class Professor :)
ReplyDeleteNever really think of him as a guitar player, it's all about the voice for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
I'm a recent convert to Neil Young... I loved C,S,N,Y and any form of them... so why wouldn't I like NY? Right??
ReplyDeleteMy 23 yos, aka The Traveling Troubadour (he prefers Freelance Musician), recently showed up on my doorstep. He has working on learning "Southern Man". What a song!
Today, he's moved on to James Taylor, "Fire and Rain".
Classic Rock. <3
Neil Young has gone through quite a few renditions of himself... I remember when he was Conan O'Brien's music guest for an entire week... he came out to interview with Conan and apologized for re-turning Conan's guitar to what he called D-Modal, which is the same thing as Double-Drop D tuning... it's not as drastic as other tunings I know he has tinkered with in the past.
DeleteJames Taylor... another musician that I totally adore...

ohhhhhhh how I love Neil! He looked happy at Voodoo. he looked like he was having fun. It was wonderful to witness. I think my favorite Neil song is... Birds (I just made myself cry). Neil is the first musician that made me feel. I did fall out of love with him for a brief period (sorry Neil) after seeing him at Radio City Music Hall and he only played his Greendale stuff. I respected him for honoring his craft but damn, that was NOT what I wanted to hear.
ReplyDeletewait.... On the Way Home.
ReplyDeletedamn, I love that Cinnamon Girl video! thanks for sharing Shoes ~ I'm going to rock right into my day!
Hey Green Monkey... that is my favorite video of his... that song and everything else about it that I mentioned!
DeleteI remember seeing Clapton in '94 when he was touring behind 'From the Cradle'... a lot of people were chapped that he wasn't doing traditional Clapton stuff, but he was fully in support of that blues cd he had recorded... the whole show was 'Nothin' But The Blues'...
I'm not familiar with that song... I will look for it after class...
I think he is very happy with who he is and where he is in Life. I totally respect him...
I trust things are good for you...
