Sgt Pepper taught the band to play...
I'm calling bullshit on that...
But it was 43 years ago today...
that The BeaTles crossed
Abbey Road...
On August 8, 1969, Lain Macmillan was given about ten minutes in which to shoot this photo. This is possibly the most recognized photo of The BeaTles...
This photo added to the rumor that Paul McCartney had died... conspiracy theorists interpreted the photo in this manner...
John, being dressed in a white suit, represented a priest... one who would conduct a funeral service; Ringo was alleged to be dressed as an undertaker...
Paul, being barefoot in the photo, was representative of being a corpse... and poor George, dressed in denim... he was the grave digger. He certainly wasn't getting much respect at this point of his career.
Anyway... it is debatable what music would be like today if not for The BeaTles... they changed everything... hair length, fashion... Hell, I knew when I saw them on Ed Sullivan for the first time that I wanted to play guitar.
Where have the years gone???
PS:
Did you know that
PS:
Did you know that
- they chose the name, 'Beatles' as an homage to Buddy Holly and the Crickets?
- That Little Feat spelled 'feet' the way they did as an homage to The BeaTles?

When you saw the Beatles, you knew you wanted to play guitar? Well. When I saw George Harrison, I knew I wanted to 'play' with him!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Hey!! I really began to appreciate George for the knowledgeable person he was. I really liked his level of spirituality!
DeleteHow are you doing??

Interesting....
ReplyDeleteI Love their music!!!
Hey you... yeah, I really like their music as well. One of my favorite musician stories involves Joe Walsh. He worked so hard to learn how to play the guitar riff to "And Your Bird Can Sing..." and got to where he could really play it, only to later learn that John and George both played it.
DeleteJoe Walsh says that if one really wants to learn how to play guitar, learn every BeaTle song you can.
I would believe it...

Nice post!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen this pic?

Max! What a GREAT photo!! I have never seen this photo before! Just a moment in the Life... it's hard to believe that at this point in their time together, they weren't getting along well at all.

I was there, on Abbey Road.. But it was just me - no one to pose with... Sad!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, O...
DeleteI would have posed with you... ;o)

Thanks for the mini history lesson. I never knew that about the priest, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Kitty
P.S. I remember my older brother had this album.
Good morning, Kitty...
DeleteYeah, at that time, there were all kinds of rumors going on about these guys. A commenter added a thing or two I had forgotten, and a thing I didn't know.
How are you today?

Thankss for the history lesson on the photo. I love the Beatles. There will never be another band like them. They changed music as we know it. I suppose other bands could say the same, but the SCALE here was simply so immense. I cannot imagine what it must have beeen like to have been one of them. There would have been no way to prepare yourself for that. All you wanted to do was play some good music and insteand you changed music history. How do you plan for that????
ReplyDeleteHi, Robin... good morning!
DeleteEverything you said in your comment is SO true... how do you plan to make that kind of impact on the world?
Some things happen in Life that is just beyond comprehension, it seems.

Nope. Didn't know any of it. I wasn't a huge Beatles fan back then, and now...well I know their songs whether I wanted to or not, and they have good memories, so I guess I like them now :)
ReplyDeleteHey you... good morning!
DeleteI continue to be amazed at the songs, lyrics, and chord structures they created... the interaction between them was just brilliant.
How are you?

FYI and all that, you might have added the additional speculation that occurred over the license plate "28 IF" that also was in the picture. It was said that, had he died, he would have been 28 at the time of his death, or would have been 28 at the time of the picture. I can't recall exactly which. Also there was the matter of "I buried Paul" and the lyric of "A day in the life" which refers to a young man having died in a car crash ("He blew his mind out in a car. He didn't notice that the lights had changed. A crowd of people stood and stared. They'd seen his face before. Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords....I'd love to turn you on". And, yeah....I'm old enough to have trod the trail of speculation in the '60s :-)
ReplyDeleteHi there, Mr. Ogood... I like this name!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I had forgotten ALL about the license plate on the auto. Thank you for the reminder! It was that he would have been 28 had he still be alive, I believe.
LMBO @ your last sentence in your comment!!
Thank you for coming by!

You're welcome, although I only de-lurk when lured by extranea. I think I made that word up just now.
DeleteAnyhow, I went to bed thinking about the whole thing: Paul is dead thing and kicked myself (mentally) that I didn't go into the "rest of the story", that is, the imagery associated with Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. Those two album sleeves were what kicked off the thing to begin with. Check it out if that sort of thing flips up your skirt ;-)
I now return you to your previously scheduled programming....and, yes, these are NOT the drones you were looking for.
Upton Ogood, of the somewhat discredited, although still smug 'cause they couldn't prove it Ogoods of East coast fame. ;-)
My mom was a huge Beatles fan. Paul was always her fave. I wonder if they knew when they took that shot on Abbey Road for the album cover just how popular it would become later on in years. Iconic, indeed!
ReplyDeletePS. Last week Def Leppard celebrated the 25th anniversary of Hysteria. As you said, where have the years gone?!
'Johnny was a school boy, when he heard his first beatles song...'
ReplyDeleteAll the way man...now who's smoking pot in the back round...I would love to come and visit you as your not to far way from me...road trip e-mail me.
